Everything you need to know about the ‘Red Dead Redemption’ mobile version
After reigning the streaming landscape and making a name for itself, Netflix is now taking mobile gaming experience to a level up with Red Dead Redemption from Rockstar Games.
The epic Western adventure was a turning point for Rockstar, especially after it cemented its reputation with a focus on metropolitan crime syndicates, most notably with the uber-popular Grand Theft Auto series.
Despite the audacious leap, gamers loved the cowboy tale, which soon bagged several Game of the Year awards. And Netflix has recently gone above and beyond to ensure this nostalgia-prone game lands at their fingertips.
You heard it right! Red Dead Redemption is arriving on your mobile screens for the very first time, all thanks to Netflix. As for those waiting on additional details, here’s all you need to know about the mobile edition.
What is it about?
When playing Red Dead Redemption, players enter as John Marston, a gunslinger navigating his life on thin ice. One small crack could drown him forever, as the Pinkertons have abducted his family. To rescue his kin, he must track down the existing members of his old gang, which takes place across an action-packed landscape of a fabled America.
Red Dead Redemption is set in 1911 across the fictional versions of the American Southwest and Mexico, when the old world was on its decline and a new one waited in the wings for the reveal. Players can see folks with a rusty sense of technology, struggling to use basic devices like telephones. In fact, transportation still primarily relies on horse-powered vehicles, although the impending age of automobiles is foreshadowed in the opening credits.
The Netflix synopsis reads, “Where Grand Theft Auto veers into satire of modern American life, Red Dead Redemption sees the West as it was, through the eyes of a former outlaw.”
What kind of game is it?
Did you ever feel like traversing the Western world? If so, Red Dead Redemption is the ideal choice for gameplay. Players have to get rid of gang hideouts, go hunting and gathering, tame and domesticate wild horses, get used to those poker sessions in saloons, hunt bounties, be ready for showdowns, and do much more. The more you play and the more you level up, you can even unlock outfits that fit the Western age.
Red Dead Redemption is also packed with quite a population of flora and fauna, and the worldbuilding is somewhat bigger than anything Rockstar had launched back in the day. The in-game scenery is full of Western details like high plains, rivers, canyons, buttes, and everything else you’re probably used to watching in a movie. You can even spot vultures, hawks, eagles, rabbits, bears, and even cougars around.
What set Red Dead Redemption apart from its gaming counterparts at the time was a state-of-the-art targeting system, called Dead Eye, which allows players to slow down time and focus on the targets for precise shots, then kill them at a rapid pace.
What is the soundtrack like in Red Dead Redemption?
Unlike the pop-funk era of the Grand Theft Auto series, Red Dead Redemption’s score features timpani, horns, harmonica, steel-guitar strums, and strings. It also includes a few vocal tracks, for example, when players cross Mexico for the first time, they can hear José González’s ‘Far Away.’
Does the mobile version include Undead Nightmare?
Indeed! Red Dead Redemption on Netflix features the standalone expansion pack Undead Nightmare, a zombie story serving as a diversion from the main game. In it, a zombie bites Marston’s wife and son, and he now has to find the source, alongside the cure for the same. Moreover, there are several more missions fans might find interesting.
Is it a must to play Red Dead Revolver or Red Dead Redemption 2 before playing Red Dead Redemption?
Red Dead Redemption offers a standalone, complete experience of its own. But in case you’ve played Red Dead Redemption 2 and are still out of the loop about the first, Netflix has you covered.
When can players get Red Dead Redemption on Netflix?
Fans can pre-register for Red Dead Redemption on their mobile apps and play without the disturbance of ads. They can also opt for an in-app purchase after the game is released on December 2nd. So, don’t miss your chance!
