Everything you need to know about the new Rowan Atkinson festive Netflix series
Rowan Atkinson is returning to Netflix this Christmas, and yes, things are about to get adorably messy. After executing what was literally a war with a bee in 2022’s Man vs Bee, our dearest Mr Bean is stepping into new territory: babysitting.
His latest project, Man vs Baby, promises all the slapstick humour and wide-eyed panic he is famous for and what we’ve come to love for ages.
Atkinson reprises his role as Trevor Bingley, the same well-meaning man whose calm plans have a habit of turning spectacularly sideways. However, this time, instead of buzzing insects, he is up against something far smaller but infinitely more unpredictable: a baby. Imagine Mr Bean with the baby from Baby’s Day Out.
Netflix has released the first festive look, showing Trevor surrounded by decorations, toddlers, and a very ambitious Christmas tree. He is feeding two babies at once in one still and attempting a picture-perfect dinner in another.
It’s safe to say the holidays are in safe (if slightly shaky) hands. Here is everything you need to know about Man vs Baby ahead of its release.
What is Man vs Baby about?
After the mansion meltdown in Man vs Bee, Trevor Bingley has sworn off stressful jobs (as he should). He has taken up work as a school caretaker and is now living a simpler life surrounded by crayons and building blocks. But as Christmas gets near, an irresistible offer appears in front of him. He gets a chance to look after a luxury London penthouse over the holidays.
Things take a turn when no one comes to collect the Baby Jesus from the school nativity. Somehow, Trevor ends up responsible for a real baby and a very expensive apartment at the same time. Between burping, babysitting, and trying not to break anything, his plans for a peaceful Christmas slip further away.
Let’s correct ourselves from before. It’s Mr Bean mixed with Baby’s Day Out against the plot of Home Alone. Can you imagine the amount of fun and laughter we’ll get after watching all our favourite Christmas movies combined in one big Netflix series?
Who’s in the cast and crew?
Man vs Baby brings back the team behind Man vs Bee. The show is created and written by Rowan Atkinson and Will Davies, with David Kerr directing it. Chris Clark and Will Davies serve as executive producers, and Kate Fasulo is the series producer for HouseSitter Productions.
Of course, the highlight is Atkinson himself: the man, the myth, the legend. He’s someone who can turn a raised eyebrow into a punchline. As the next chapter of his career, Man vs Baby looks like the perfect playground for his classic brand of physical comedy.
Is there a trailer available?
Not yet, but Netflix has released a set of first-look photos that give a taste of what’s about to come. You can see Christmas decorations, fancy interiors, and Atkinson looking mildly terrified in every frame. The trailer is expected to arrive closer to release.
When does Man vs Baby release on Netflix?
Man vs Baby will premiere on December 11, exclusively on Netflix. With four half-hour episodes set during Christmas, it’s the perfect watch for anyone who enjoys a clumsy hero, giving them festive laughter and the most adorable baby.
So if you’re planning your December watchlist, make room for Trevor Bingley and his new tiny co-star.
