Everything you need to know about the live-action ‘Scooby-Doo: Origins’

Netflix is about to turn back time with its live-action Scooby-Doo: Origins series, and we know the world simply cannot wait for the trip down memory lane.

While the mystery is starting to come together, production on the live-action version of the beloved mystery-solving animated series has officially begun in Atlanta. According to the tabloid, it’s going back to where it actually started.

Based on the Hanna-Barbera characters, Scooby-Doo: Origins serves as a modern reimagination of the fan-favourite group of teen sleuths and their super special dog, who bring to life the first case of Mystery Inc.

Although Netflix teased that the upcoming series is “less about what you already know, and more about how it all started,” for those curious about the details, here’s a rundown of everything you should know about Scooby-Doo: Origins.

What is the plot?

Scooby-Doo: Origins is a forthcoming modern reimagination where old pals Shaggy and Daphne join forces at a summer camp with the scientific genius Velma and the elusive but handsome Fred to get to the roots of a mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy who “may have witnessed a supernatural murder.”

The reimagination comes half a century after its original debut, which extended to three theatrical movies and several animated series. However, only a handful of people know how the special dog actually joined the mystery-solving gang. So, in Scooby-Doo: Origins, showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg will start at the beginning with the very first case that kick-started it all.

Who’s in the cast and crew?

Numerous star-studded names have joined the Scooby-Doo: Origins ensemble, including McKenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones. Paul Walter Hauser, Rusty Schwimmer, Peter Macon, Maxwell Simkins, Jona Xiao, Dani Deetté, Elysée Sanvillé, Alex Isles, Avery Kristen Pohl, Pamela Mitchell, Ross Kimball, Sara Gilbert, Wynn Everett, Sauriyan Sapkota, Bruce McGill, and Sherilyn Fenn round out the cast.

Meanwhile, taking on the role of the titular pup is a real Great Dane for the first time in the franchise. Rosenberg and Appelbaum will executive-produce the series with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman via Berlanti Productions, and André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson via Midnight Radio.
