Everything you need to know about Ryan Murphy’s ‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’

Netflix’s Monster anthology is growing each passing day. After revisiting the horrors of Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez Brothers, round three comes with the creeping Monster: The Ed Gein Story.

The forthcoming instalment of Netflix’s Monster anthology series, created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, revolves around the “godfather of all serial killers”, whose crime trail inspired The Silence of the Lambs, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Psycho, Ed Gein. The showrunners are turning back time to the 1950s when Gein’s chain of atrocities unleashed mortal horror in the icy fields of rural Wisconsin.

Gein’s path of destruction led to the death of multiple women, whom he would later go on to desecrate. Speaking of what’s to come in Monster: The Ed Gein Story, actor Charlie Hunnam said, “This is going to be the really human, tender, unflinching, no-holds-barred exploration of who Ed was and what he did. But who he was being at the centre of it, rather than what he did.”

By now, everyone must have gotten the hunch of the buzz surrounding Monster: The Ed Gein Story. But for those still uninitiated, here’s a lowdown of all you need to know.

What is it about?

Monster: The Ed Gein Story takes you back to the 1950s rural Wisconsin, where a cordial and courteous Ed Gein lived on a secluded, festering farm. Unbeknownst to the world, he’s hiding a house of skeletons so haunting, Tudum teases, “it would redefine the American nightmare”. Driven to despair by closeting, psychosis, and obsession with his mother, Gein’s outbreak of brutality gave birth to crimes that inspired Hollywood over the years as “the blueprint for modern horror”.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story shows that no one is born a monster; they are man-made.

Who is in the cast?

Charlie Hunnam portrays Ed Gein in this Monster instalment of Netflix. Suzanna Son plays Adeline Watkins, Laurie Metcalf portrays Augusta Gein, Vicky Krieps plays Ilse Koch, Olivia Williams portrays Alma Reville, and Joey Pollari plays Anthony Perkins.

Tyler Jacob Moore as Sheriff Schley, Charlie Hall as Deputy Worden, Mimi Kennedy as Dr Mildred Newman, Will Brill as Tobe Hooper, Lesley Manville as Bernice Worden, Addison Rae as Evelyn, Tom Hollander as Psycho director Alfred Hitchcock, and Robin Weigert as Enid Watkins complete the cast.

Is there a trailer available?

Netflix recently dropped an intensely spine-chilling, torturous trailer that reveals Rae’s casting alongside many more. You can check the same below, where Hunnam breaks the fourth wall, dances in dresses, and torments his victims, including Rae’s character. The trailer will creep on your skin and crawl on your back, so watch out. Be on your guard.
