Everything you need to know about Netflix's 'Glamorous'

The upcoming offering from Netflix, featuring Kim Cattrall and Miss Benny, Glamorous, is set to grace our screens very soon. The show’s trailer, replete with queer joy and fun, dropped recently to much fanfare.

Glamorous stars musician and social media star Miss Benny as Marco Mejia, a gender non-conforming Gen Z, who lands a job at a prestigious cosmetics company run by former supermodel Madolyn Addison, played by Cattrall.

The premise of the show will remind every Millennial of the good ol’ days of Ugly Betty (starring America Ferreira as the titular Betty), and we are not complaining. This Betty is not dressed down to look shabby but has their own challenges.

What is Netflix’s Glamorous about?

The official synopsis by Netflix reads: “Glamorous tells the story of Marco Mejia, a young gender non-conforming queer man whose life seems to be stuck in place until he lands a job working for legendary makeup mogul Madolyn Addison.

“It’s Marco’s first chance to figure out what he wants out of life, who he actually is, and what it really means for him to be queer.”

In early 2019, Benny received an offer for a coming-of-age series centred around a makeup influencer, which they considered their dream role. Following the production of an unaired pilot episode, The CW network decided against ordering a complete series. Benny, the only one from the original pilot still attached to the project, revealed that Glamorous underwent three years of redevelopment before Netflix eventually acquired it.

Who is in the cast of Glamorous?

Glamorous features mostly new faces in its cast. We have Zane Phillips from Legacies as Madolyn’s son Ben, Jade Payton from Dynasty as Madolyn’s assistant Venetia, Michael Hsu Rosen from Tiny Pretty Things as Marco’s bashful love interest Ben, Ayesha Harris from Daisy Jones & The Six as graphic designer Britt, and Graham Parkhurst from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as Marco’s not-so-shy love interest Parker.

Speaking to NME, Miss Benny revealed how Cattrall’s addition to the cast came to be, “They [the producers] needed somebody who’s funny, who’s serious and respected and powerful, but also cool,” Benny says. “I was always pitching Kim Cattrall [to them], but I thought it was a long shot. And then the producers surprised me one day at dinner by saying: ‘It looks like she’s signing on.’ And I had a gay heart attack. I nearly fell over because I couldn’t believe it!”

When will Glamorous be released?

Netflix’s Glamorous, which has been almost five years in the making, is primed to become the next must-watch series. It’s a show that celebrates diversity, identity, and the power of self-discovery. We have to wait and watch if it delivers. But not for long as the ten-episode series is set to premiere on Netflix on June 22nd.
