Jamie Foxx’s love for sports has given Hollywood gems that not many can forget. Think Any Given Sunday and Ali. Now, thanks to Netflix, fans are about to get yet another chance to relive that magic on screen with the upcoming movie, Fight for ’84.
The Netflix film is inspired by the true story of the 1984 US Olympic Boxing team’s coach. The streamer has roped in Andrés Baiz as the director, best known for his works in Griselda and Narcos. He will be directing Fight for ’84 from a script written by John Gatins, Andrea Berloff, and Andy Weiss.
Speaking of the forthcoming movie, Baiz told Tudum, “What excites me about Fight for ’84 is how deeply human it is. It’s a story about second chances, about rebuilding after loss, and about finding strength through connection.” Viewers shouldn’t mistake Fight for ’84 as a film about stardom or glory, as a matter of fact.

What is the plot?
After the tragic turn of events in 1980, which ended fatally for the US Olympic Boxing Team, a new coach was brought in to reassemble a team from scratch, whom he led to a win, achieving the most medals in Olympic boxing history.
Eric Newman for Grand Electric, Bryan Unkeless for Night Owl, Jamie Foxx and Michael W Abbott for A Movie Films Production are producing Fight for ’84. Meanwhile, Andy Weiss, on behalf of WeBros Entertainment, Henry Tillman, and Datari Turner are executive producing the Netflix film. Conversing about the star with Tudum, Baiz said, “Teaming up with Jamie Foxx is incredibly exciting. He’s an exceptional actor with unmatched range, and brings realness and depth you can’t fake.”
Who is in the cast?
While Foxx has been cast in the lead for Fight for ’84, joining him in the project are Malachi Beasley, Shea Whigham, Dan Perrault, Will Chase, Algee Smith, and Jamir Cope. The cast also includes Mitchell Edwards, Al-Shabazz Jabateh, Tre McBride, Xavier Mills, Adrian Martinez and Javier Bolanos.
Is there a trailer available?
