Everything you need to know about ‘Chapapote’
Packing elaborate, sharp twists and turns of a heist thriller into a film is no easy work, but Daniel Sánchez Arévalo recently blew minds with Collision Course. And it looks like he’s not done with Netflix, as he prepares to bring a new Spanish disaster movie called Chapapote.
According to What’s on Netflix, cameras are already rolling off the Galician Coast for the upcoming Netflix Original film co-written and directed by Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, based on an original idea by Ramón Campos.
The gripping new movie is about a catastrophic Prestige oil spill in 2002, where Campos and Arévalo co-wrote the screenplay with the former executive, producing through Bambú Producciones.
As for the rest of the details on the disaster movie, here’s a comprehensive guide to everything known so far about Chapapote.
What is the plot?
Chapapote is an upcoming Spanish Netflix Original disaster film set in 2002, when the oil tanker Prestige splits into two off the Galician coast, spilling slick oil that covers nearly all the beaches, except the one in the small town of Agarimo. Although that should be welcome news for the residents, it soon becomes a thing of concern. While the oil spill hasn’t reached their location, they have no way to go fishing or receive any aid. In fact, volunteers who have shown up in neighbouring towns don’t come to them.
With businesses halted and the future looking grimmer day by day, the townspeople turn to an extravagant but desperate idea: to bring the oil spill there themselves if it won’t reach their beach naturally.
Who is in the cast and crew?
Netflix has announced the disaster drama will star Tamar Novas, Carlos Blanco, María Vázquez, Fer Fraga, and feature a “special appearance” by Antonio Durán “Morris.” While Novas has eight Netflix Original credits, including High Seas, Gangs of Galicia, The Mess You Leave Behind, Nowhere, Elisa & Marcela, and 1000 Miles from Christmas, Blanco previously appeared in The Asunta Case. Vázquez starred in The Gardener, and Durán appeared in Old Dog, New Tricks, while Fraga is set to appear in Murder in Galicia, the dramatised series accompanying Unprotected: Murder in Galicia.
Ramón Campos and Daniel Sánchez Arévalo serve as co-writers, with the latter also directing. Rafa García is the director of photography, Miguel Sanz is an editor, and Federico Jusid composes the original score for the movie.
