Everything you need to know about ‘Blind Sherlock’ on Netflix

On the heels of Netflix’s successful venture with the Amsterdam Empire, the streamer is ready to bring another Dutch series to the fold, Blind Sherlock.

Netflix recently announced the release date for the series, scheduled to premiere in January 2026, along with the first teaser. The show comprises six episodes, with each one running for 62 minutes.

Kristof Hoefkens serves as the showrunner, who also outlined to Broadcastnow how the idea of Blind Sherlock came to be in the first place. “Many years ago, I worked as a journalist when a colleague wrote a story about Sacha Van Loo, a blind civilian who was working for the wiretapping unit of the police. It stuck with me. My co-writer, Maarten Goffin, and I decided to go talk to him,” he said.

“Sacha turned out to be intriguing, intelligent, talented, and funny. Having a blind lead character in a police investigation was exactly the creative twist we were looking for in a cop show.” While the inspiration behind Blind Sherlock has very real roots, for the rest of the details, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Dutch series.

What is Blind Sherlock about?

Blind Sherlock is set in Rotterdam, where drug-related crimes are an everyday occurrence, and the tension between rival gangs often escalates to violence. To retain control of the situation, law enforcement has assembled a dedicated wiretapping unit. Roman Mertens, a blind man, decides to enlist in the unit, despite scepticism surrounding his abilities within the force. But it doesn’t take long for him to prove that his blindness is, after all, an asset.

According to executive vice president Camille Dupeule, Blind Sherlock is not an ordinary police drama. “It is a fresh and modern take on well-known IP, with a main character at the crossroads of Sherlock Holmes and Daredevil. We discover a positive portrayal of disability, where the hero turns blindness into a superpower, she says. Although it’s not a direct construction of Van Loo’s life story, the creators heavily rely on his experiences for the making of the show.

Who’s in the cast?

Frank Lammers, best known for his work in Undercover and Ferry, has joined the series with newcomer Bart Kelchtermans in the lead role. Ayşegül Karaca, Sigrid ten Napel and Charlie Chan Dagelet also make up the cast of Blind Sherlock.

Is there a trailer?

While Netflix has yet to unveil a full-fledged trailer, it recently released a teaser for fans, which you can check out below.

When does it release on Netflix?

Blind Sherlock is slated to be released on Netflix on January 23rd. So, mark your calendars!
