Everything you need to know about ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’
There is always that one superhero movie people forget for a minute… And then the second it starts getting action on Netflix, everyone jumps onto it like it’s leaving the next day. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is exactly that film. It was released and lived its theatre life (not a long one), and now it is swimming back into everyone’s watchlist.
And honestly? This sequel feels way more fun when you watch it on the sofa instead of pretending to understand underwater politics in a noisy theatre.
Momoa is still in full Arthur Curry mode, still juggling king duties, dad duties, and ocean-disaster duties with that all-rounder energy. And watching him this time around almost feels easier, because the pressure is gone, and you already know what you are stepping into.
So if you skipped it, forgot it, or just want to see two brothers argue their way through an ancient crisis, Netflix is basically handing you the perfect moment to press play. Here is everything you need before you dive back in.
What is the plot?
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom picks up four years after Arthur dethroned Orm and took over as King of Atlantis. Life should be peaceful, but Arthur is realising that ruling an underwater kingdom is… exhausting. He wants Atlantis to work with the surface world, but the Council keeps blocking every plan. Meanwhile, the oceans are getting hotter, and something is clearly messing with the planet.
Enter David Kane, aka Black Manta, who is still furious about his father’s death. He breaks into Atlantis’ ancient vault and steals orichalcum, a super-powerful fuel that the Atlanteans abandoned because it is literally toxic to the ocean. To make things worse, David is being influenced by a mysterious dark force connected to a long-lost trident, which gives him powers he absolutely should not have.
Arthur tries to stop him and fails, and then realises there is only one person who knows how to track this guy down: Orm. Yes, the brother he threw into prison. Yes, the brother who tried to destroy the surface world. But desperate times, desperate measures. The two team up, argue every five minutes, and then slowly start acting like an actual team because if they do not stop David, both worlds will collapse.
Who’s in the cast?
No need to remind anyone that Jason Momoa is Arthur Curry, with Patrick Wilson returning as Orm. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is back as David Kane, this time even more intense thanks to his new supernatural upgrade. Nicole Kidman returns as Atlanna, Amber Heard as Mera, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Randall Park is playing Dr Stephen Shin again, the man who has been trying to prove Atlantis exists for years.
Is there a trailer available?
Yes, and it is enough to set the expectations you had from the film when you first heard about it. The trailer focuses more on the Arthur–Orm dynamic and the rising threat of Black Manta with that new cursed trident.
When does Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom release?
It is already available to stream, so if you are looking forward to watching underwater battles and ancient curses with a whole lot of Jason Momoa energy, the movie is ready for you.
