Everything you need to know about ‘Aka Charlie Sheen’
Netflix is bringing a Hollywood page-turner in the name of a new two-part documentary, aka Charlie Sheen, and when the project ultimately drops this year, we want you to be prepared. The buzz surrounding the show was already felt worldwide like a mysterious seismic shift, troubling scientists when the streamer recently dropped a trailer.
Once the highest-paid television actor of all time, the world couldn’t imagine Two and a Half Men without his dead stares and satirical outbursts. Then there was a time when the headlines about Sheen went from applause to fodder of concern.
From his erratic behaviours online to his public attacks aimed at Chuck Lorre, Sheen gained steam that seemed to be leading to a dead-end for him. While the CBS sitcom found a replacement, the actor never spilt the beans on what exactly went wrong.
But that’s until now. aka Charlie Sheen is about to shed light on the Sheen era rooted in darkness, and here’s all you need to know about it.
What is aka Charlie Sheen about?
Following seven years of sobriety, aka Charlie Sheen, the Netflix doc will see Charlie Sheen open up about the dark stint that marred his Hollywood presence in 2011. The project examines his upbringing in Malibu, offering fans rare insights into his childhood, his rise to superstardom, and the dramatic fall in his popularity.
The actor illuminates the long-standing rumours while recounting the dark period of his life that he never addressed in public before. But make no mistake, bringing this chapter and Sheen on to reveal it was no easy feat. According to director Andrew Renzi, speaking to Tudum, he spent seven to eight months building a bond of trust before getting the actor to reveal the never-heard-before things.
“He did not want to make the documentary,” Renzi shared with the tabloid. So, gaining Sheen’s trust was the first step in materialising the tell-all documentary. Although he didn’t intend to tell his side of the story, many did want to hear it, sans the chaos that originally defined him. And that’s what aka Charlie Sheen aims to bring to the audience, an account that’s equally unfiltered and unhinged from nobody else but the man himself.
Who else is interviewed in the Netflix documentary?
The film features exclusive interviews with Sheen, his friends and family, industry insiders, and his former drug dealer. His father, Martin, and brother Emilio Estevez refused to participate in front of the camera, but they were supportive of the Netflix documentary. “They wanted to let Charlie have his moment,” Renzi explained to Tudum.
The interviewed stars include Denise Richards, Heidi Fleiss, Jon Cryer, Sean Penn, Ramon Estevez, Brooke Mueller, and Chris Tucker, among others.
