Everything we know about 'The Watcher' season two

Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s thrilling series The Watcher was renewed for a second season Just 20 days after its debut. Originally planned as a limited series, the success of the first season made it an easy decision for Netflix to order another instalment.

Inspired by a Cut article by Reeves Wiedeman, the show quickly became a hit, surpassing expectations. The Watcher actor Mia Farrow even stated that she hoped the family who inspired it won’t watch it as they might find it traumatising to relive it all.

The Watcher follows the lives of Nora and Dean Brannock, played by Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale. The couple moves into their dream home but they soon discover they are not welcome in their new neighbourhood.

Odd neighbours and a sinister figure known as ‘The Watcher’ begin to torment them with threatening letters.

The Watcher season two possible plot and cast

Since the mystery of The Watcher’s identity remains unsolved at the end of season one, there is potential for further exploration in the upcoming season. The real-life story itself remains an open mystery, but the show is likely to take creative freedom to deviate from the original events. Season two may continue to delve into the Brannocks’ story or adopt an anthology format, featuring different families facing similar chilling experiences.

If season two continues the Brannock family’s ordeal, then viewers can expect to see Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Isabel Gravitt, and Luke David Blumm reprising their roles as the Brannock family. The ensemble cast, including Jennifer Coolidge, Margo Martindale, Mia Farrow, Terry Kinley, Christopher MacDonald, and Joe Mantello, will likely return as well. However, characters played by Noma Dumezweni and Richard Kind, who meet unfortunate fates in season one, may not return unless flashbacks are utilised to bring them back.

The Watcher season two release date

The Watcher season two is not likely to come to Netflix any time soon. The first season premiered on October 13, 2022. Filming for season one reportedly took six months, followed by seven months of post-production. A similar timeframe can be expected for season two, which might also be affected by the writer’s strike. We might have to wait till 2024 for The Watcher season two.

Murphy will also be busy with his other anthology series for Netflix as they have ordered two more seasons of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
