If you are an avid western aficionado and are brooding over not being able to witness another masterpiece like The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, fret not! Netflix has an upcoming western that seems to be promising with a strong ensemble, stellar narrative and just the suave, stylised charm that we need. 

Directed by Jeymes Samuel, who is also the producer, the film is based on Boaz Yakin’s screenplay. The film is also co-produced by Lawrence Bender, James Lassiter and Jay-Z.

The all-black ensemble has promising names such as Idris Elba and Jonathan Majors attached and we cannot wait to see what the supremely sophisticated and enigmatic Elba has in store for us.

When will the Netflix western The Harder They Fall release?

Netflix western The Harder They Fall is set to stream on the streamer on Wednesday, November 1, 2021. It will also receive a limited theatrical release on the same day. 

It will, however, be making its world premiere on October 6, 2021, at the BFI London Film Festival. 

What is the story behind the Netflix western The Harder They Fall?

Netflix western The Harder They Fall has already garnered quite the buzz. The film will involve an outlaw named Nat Love trying to seek revenge from his enemy, Rufus Buck, after he is released from prison. 

Nat’s ragtag team will include his former lover Stagecoach Mary, his closest associates, the hot-headed Bill Pickett and the swift Jim Beckwourth. An unlikely foe-turned-friend will also accompany him. 

Buck, in turn, has a pretty formidable crew, including Cherokee Bill and Trudy Smith, who does not like to lose.  

Who are the cast members in the Netflix western The Harder They Fall?

The upcoming Netflix western The Harder They Fall has quite the star-studded ensemble cast. While some of them have already been regulars in Netflix Originals, including Idris Elba, Jonathan Majors, Delroy Lindo and Lakeith Stanfield, we are excited to meet the rest of the crew. 

Majors, whom we have seen in Lovecraft Country and White Boy Rick, will star as Nat Love while Elba will be playing his adversary, the brutal Buck. Elba is known for his strong and spirited roles in Suicide Squad, Beasts of No Nation, Thor: Ragnarok and more. Zazie Beetz from Joker will be reprising the role of Mary, while Lakeith Stanfield will be playing Cherokee Bill. 

Delroy Lindo will be seen as Bass Reeves, Regina King as Trudy Smith, Edi Gathegi as Bill Pickett, RJ Cyler as Jim Beckwourth and Danielle Deadwyler as Cuffee. 

While The Other Guys’ Damon Wayans Jr.’s role has not yet been announced, it is said that Deon Cole is portraying the role of Wiley Escoe.

What is the production status of the Netflix western The Harder They Fall?

Since the film is slated for release in October at the Film Festival, it is most likely in post-production. Principal photography had begun way back on October 4, 2020, and filming ended by December 19, 2020.

Most of the filming took place in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
