Everything we know about ‘Sex Education’ season four

Fans have waited for new episodes of Netflix’s hit series Sex Education for two years, and the highly anticipated fourth season is just around the corner.

On July 5th, 2023, Netflix announced that season four will mark the show’s end, which wasn’t a surprise as most of the main cast have already started moving on to bigger projects.

But the streaming giant promises that our last year with the students of Moordale Secondary will be a rollercoaster of emotions.

Series creator and lead writer Laurie Nunn addressed fans in an open letter, announcing the official release date of the show, “We wanted to make a show that would answer some of the questions we all used to have about love, sex, friendship, and our bodies,” Nunn continued, “Something that would have helped our inner teenagers feel a little less alone. It’s been overwhelming seeing how the show has connected with people around the world, and we hope it’s made some of you feel a little less alone too.”

While we wait for season four to drop, here’s everything we know about the fourth and final season of Sex Education:

Sex Education season four plot:

The upcoming season will pick up after the closure of Moordale Secondary as Otis and Eric face their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College. As they enter this new phase of their lives, Otis is anxious about setting up his new clinic, while Eric hopes for a fresh start. However, Cavendish College proves to be a culture shock for the Moordale students. With daily yoga sessions in the communal garden and a strong sustainability vibe, this college challenges their notions of progressiveness.

Surprisingly, the popular kids here are known for being kind rather than competitive, throwing the ever-driven Viv off-kilter. Jackson, still grappling with his feelings for Cal, and Aimee, trying out an Art A Level, also find themselves navigating this unfamiliar terrain. Meanwhile, Adam questions whether mainstream education is right for him. On the other side of the world, Maeve is living her dream at the prestigious Wallace University, adding more complexity to Otis’ emotions.

Sex Education season four cast:

The final season will bring back most of the familiar faces that fans have grown to love over the years. Asa Butterfield will reprise his role as Otis Milburn, the goofy teenage sex therapist. Gillian Anderson will return as Jean Milburn, Otis’s caring and eccentric mother. Ncuti Gatwa will be back as Eric Effiong, Otis’s best friend. Emma Mackey will once again play the role of Maeve Wiley. Aimee-Lou Wood will return as Aimee Gibbs, and Connor Swindells as Adam Groff. Kedar Williams-Stirling will reprise his role as Jackson Marchetti.

There have been a few departures from the series, with Simone Ashley, Patricia Allison, and Tanya Reynolds leaving after the third season. However, the show has added new cast additions to keep the excitement going. Thaddea Graham, Lisa McGrillis, Marie Reuther, Jodie Turner-Smith, Eshaan Akbar, and Emmy award-winning actor Dan Levy have joined the ensemble. Not much is known about their characters yet, but Levy will play Mr Molloy, Maeve’s U.S. Ivy League tutor.

Sex Education season four release date and teasers:

Netflix has been teasing fans with exciting glimpses of the upcoming season. The first teaser trailer, released on the same day as the announcement shows Otis, in his own awkward way, introducing himself as a teenage sex therapist to his new classmates, helped along by Eric.

In addition to the teaser, Netflix has released first-look photos that give us a glimpse of the school and family dynamics that will unfold in the final season.

Mark your calendars, as Sex Education season four is set to be released on Netflix on September 21st, 2023.
