Everything we know about Netflix’s 'Sweet Tooth' season 2

Created by Jim Mickle and adapted from Jeff Lemire’s popular graphic novel, Netflix’s Sweet Tooth is set in a dystopian world. It deals with the story of hybrids born after a post-apocalyptic incident that leads humans to hunt and persecute hybrids.

A loner human-deer boy, Gus traverses considerable distances to find more about his origin while struggling to stay afloat in a harsh and cruel world filled with complexities and rage. He manages to make a few friends and forges unexpected alliances along the way.

With many fantasy and sci-fi elements, boys with antlers, complicated parent-child relationships, and a thrilling tale of survival, the eight-episode series left the viewers hungry for more, leading to the renewal for a second season. A brilliant commentary on genetic experiments, the show stars Nonso Anozie, Christian Convery, Stefanie Lavie Owen, Adeel Akhtar and others.

Talking about the renewal, Mickle said, “It’s been equally thrilling and heartwarming to experience how people around the world have been falling in love with our deer-boy. We couldn’t be more excited to continue our collaboration with Netflix and keep following Gus and his friends on their extraordinary journey.”

Will Sweet Tooth return for a second season?

After the world was overcome with the saccharine beauty and innocence of the darling “deer-boy” played by Conry, the show became a huge hit on Netflix, reigning in the Most-watched charts for quite some time. However, fans were quite apprehensive of the streamer’s decisions to renew the show for a second season/.

In July, a fan accidentally let slip with a bar of chocolate that the show was coming back for a second season. An official tweet followed this on July 29th, 2021, that stated that the show was going to be back to deal with the stories of the hybrids.

What can be expected from Sweet Tooth season two?

Sweet Tooth has been faithful to its source material, and avid comic book readers might already know how the story proceeds. In the first season, the series ends with Gus being abducted by The Last Men while the other kids hatch a plan to save him. On the brighter side of things, the Big Man is severely wounded but braves against them to finally help the kids.

The second season might delve deeper into the virus’s origins that led to the mutations. It has also been revealed that Gus’ mother is now in Alaska that might see him making a northward journey if he is released. The second season will most likely focus on the courage of the hybrid kids as they make more friends along the way and battle against the atrocities meted out against them by ruthless mankind.

Who are the new characters on Sweet Tooth season two?

The second season is set to have four new hybrid characters, some of which have not yet been featured in the comics. Finn Fox is a sly and wary fox hybrid whose distrustful nature can be attributed to his different experiences with the ways of the world.

Finn will be joined by Wally Walrus, Haley Mockingbird and Jojo Cat. Wally is the shy hybrid who is afraid of the dark and dearly misses his mother while expressing his song lyrics.

Curious and confused, JoJo is fast and playful, while Haley’s spirited, impatient and opinionated self is hindered by her limited vocabulary that she usually makes up for using angry tweets.

When will Sweet Tooth season two begin filming?

The first season of Sweet Tooth was in production for 135 days, filmed across 72 different sets in New Zealand. The second season was scheduled to begin filming from January, as confirmed by Christian Convery’s Instagram post.

Susan Downey opened up about why they chose to film in New Zealand, praising the “really beautiful and exaggerated landscape” that was required in the series. Unlike other post-apocalyptic tales, usually abound in grey, dust and ruins, “the central idea for Sweet Tooth was that nature was reclaiming everything.”

According to Downey, New Zealand helped recreate their idea of “storybook dystopia”, where the picturesque setting helped heighten and highlight the “lush and green” scenic beauty.

When will Sweet Tooth season two begin streaming?

Since filming has just begun this year, the second season will most likely hit the streamer sometime in early or mid-2023.
