Netflix unveiled the title and premiere date for Jaane Jaan (Beloved). Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, the film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan in her OTT debut.
The Bollywood film is an adaptation of Keigo Higashino’s 2005 Japanese novel The Devotion of Suspect X. Along with Kapoor, Jaane Jaan also features Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma—all known for their capability to deliver powerhouse performances. Varma and Ghosh’s last outing on Netflix, Lust Stories 2, was quite terrible, but we will still keep our hopes up for this one.
Jaane Jaan is set in the picturesque backdrop of Kalimpong, West Bengal. In a conversation with Netflix, Ghosh mentioned how he wanted to adapt Higashino’s novel—the third and most acclaimed work in his Detective Galileo series—for long. He shared, “Jaane Jaan is based on the book, which has been the love of my life for a long, long time. From the day I read Devotion of Suspect X, I wanted to adapt it into a film. It was the most amazing love story I had ever read and today thanks to Kareena, Jaideep and Vijay that story is alive on screen. We all worked very hard to tell this story and hopefully, the audience will love it as much as we do.”
The Devotion of Suspect X revolves around a mathematician who becomes embroiled in a crime. When his neighbour commits a murder and seeks his help to conceal the crime, the mathematician employs his exceptional problem-solving skills to devise an intricate plan to protect her.
The film promises a stunning physical transformation from Ahlawat, as Varma slips into the role of a cop once again. Kapoor will portray the protagonist’s role as a single mother trying to cover up the murder of her estranged and abusive husband.
Ghosh may have had his hits and misses, but he still gave us entertaining mystery thrillers like Kahaani and Ahalya. His debut film, Jhankaar Beats (2003), is nostalgic gold.
Apart from Kapoor as Maya, Ahlawat as Naren, and Varma as Karan, the cast features Saurabh Sachdeva, Karma Takapa, Naisha Khanna, and Lin Laishram.

Jaane Jaan is all set for a worldwide release on September 21st, exclusively on Netflix.
