Everything we know about ‘Heartstopper’ season three

The second season of Heartstopper just arrived on Netflix, but fans are eager for more. The chaste and wholesome depiction of teenage love in all the shades of the LGBTQ+ rainbow has won folks over, so naturally, they want season three as soon as possible.

The good news is that the creator of the graphic novels and show, Alice Oseman, has dropped some intriguing hints about what lies ahead for Nick, Charlie, and the rest of the gang in the upcoming instalment of this coming-of-age series.

The conclusion of season two left fans with a cliffhanger moment as Charlie typed the three magical words, “I love you,” to send to Nick. It might be the inevitable next step for them, but first love does deserve its momentous moments on TV.

The show will likely build upon this moment before taking us along on the ups and downs of the duo’s relationship and more.

What is the plot of Heartstopper season 3?

While Nick is likely to get Charlie the help that he needs with his eating disorder, Elle will be exploring life at art college in season three. We hope for more aro and ace life discovery from Isaac, as Tao works on his attachment issues. We hope Darcy gets to move out of her toxic home environment as her relationship with Tara evolves. But there is more to be explored.

Alice Oseman recently sat down with Metro to offer a sneak peek into what viewers can expect from Heartstopper season three. For those who have read the graphic novels, it’s clear that there’s much more story left to explore. Oseman revealed that while the fourth volume of the graphic novel series introduced several new elements, volumes five and six will also be part of the narrative next season. “People who have read the books will know that there’s a lot of stuff we haven’t yet covered in volume four, which is out now, but there’s also going to be volume five, which is coming out in December, and there’ll be a volume six as well. So, there’s a lot of story left for the show to go into season three.”

Season two of the TV adaptation delved into themes of mental health, and Oseman assures that this exploration will continue to be a significant element. “In season two, we’ve started to explore mental health in a big way, and I think it’s pretty obvious from the way we leave the season that is going to be a big element of season three.

“We’re going to continue to look at that in a big way and explore how that affects Nick and Charlie’s relationship, and all of the other friendships in the show. So people who’ve read volume four will have a little bit of an idea of what is coming.”

Who is in the cast of Heartstopper season three?

One significant change for season three is the departure of Ben Hope, played by Sebastian Croft. The end of season two saw Ben trying to mend fences with Charlie, but their paths ultimately diverged.

But the rest of the main cast members are expected to reprise their roles for season three, which means we’ll see Kit Connor as Nick Nelson, Joe Locke as Charlie Spring, William Gao as Tao Xu, Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent, Rhea Norwood as Imogen Heaney, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy Olssen, Corinna Brown as Tara Jones, and Tobie Donovan as Isaac Henderson.

When will Hearstopper season three be released?

Given the release patterns of the first two seasons, fans speculate that Heartstopper season three might premiere on Netflix sometime around September 2024. Season one was released on April 22nd, 2022, and season two arrived on August 3rd, 2023. But there is no official announcement yet.
