Everything we know about 'Beef' season two

The first season of the A24 production was released on Netflix on April 6th, and it has not been picked up for a second season by the streaming giant. But fans are hungry for more. Will the series give us a new season? We think the success of the show may prompt it.

So, Sung Jin fed us with this, “I think should we be blessed with a season 2, there’s a lot of ways for Danny and Amy to continue. I have one really big general idea that I can’t really say yet.”

The explosive show was presented as a limited mini-series at first. Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny’s (Steven Yeun) story has been neatly wrapped up, possibly rendering any further attempt to create ‘beef’ between them feel hackneyed. But if the success of The White Lotus has proved something, then it is that more stories can always pop up in the form of newer characters and fresher locales.

Fans would tune in as long as, thematically, everything fits.

Beef season 2 release date

At the moment, there has been no confirmed release date from Netflix. However, considering the timing of the show’s release and the time it takes to make such a series, we wouldn’t expect anything new until at least 2024.

What to expect in Beef season 2?

Wong and Yeun’s earlier collaboration with Beef creator Sung Jin on Tuca & Bertie laid the foundation for their on-screen dynamic. However, Yeun and Wong navigate a completely different narrative in Beef, delving into the dark and captivating world of unresolved conflicts and their consequences. As two strangers entangled in an escalating road rage encounter, they portray the sheer madness of their characters with incredible depth and finesse. So it isn’t surprising that Sung Jin will be tempted to explore these two characters more given a chance.

“Cards on the table, we did pitch this show as a limited anthology, so there is sort of a close-ended-ness to the story [of Danny and Amy],” he told ELLE. “But, if given the opportunity, of course, I’d love to explore them further, because Danny and Amy, I love those characters. But yeah, by design, though, this a close-ended narrative.”

However, “multiple other beefs and other character types” will likely be the flavour of any new season.

Who might return in Beef season 2?

If the story continues with Amy and Danny, Wong and Yeun will be expected to return. If they return, then it is likely that so will some of the secondary characters surrounding them. It will be interesting to see if David Choe returns, given the statements he made on his podcast about a possible sexual assault.

Joseph Lee, who plays George, Amy’s stay-at-home husband, spoke to Esquire about that final scene, “In the end, when he sees Danny, he believes he sees Danny hurting Amy from far away. He has a very instinctual reaction to fire that gun. And then, I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.” This has raised hope in some that he will also return if season two does not follow the anthology route.
