Every ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ Easter egg in ‘XO, Kitty’ season 3

The sheer number of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before Easter eggs sprinkled throughout XO, Kitty season three on Netflix isn’t just a coincidence – it’s a deliberate strategy by creator Jenny Han to bridge the Han-verse and reward long-term fans.

Han does an incredible job at passing the torch in XO, Kitty season three, which finds Kitty Covey Song in her senior year at KISS, mirroring the timeline of the final To All the Boys movie, Always and Forever.

Not only does XO, Kitty, implement similar visual cues, such as the specific framing of Kitty’s notebook or Lara Jean’s return, but through these indications, the show signals that Kitty has officially graduated from the annoying younger sister to the primary romantic lead.

So, by loading the season with callbacks, she creates a sense of continuity, making the entire franchise feel like one giant interconnected story.

Since the third season of XO, Kitty, premiered on Netflix yesterday, eagle-eyed fans have already spotted some deep-cut references to the original To All the Boys trilogy. Of course, the biggest Easter egg is the full-blown cameo where Lana Condor reprises her role as Lara Jean Covey, Kitty’s big sister, emphasising that even though Kitty is in Seoul, the Covey sisters’ bond is still at the heart of the story.

Another unmistakable Easter egg, which came right out of Anna Cathcart’s encyclopaedic brain, was when Min Ho first tells Kitty, “I love you,” to which she responds, “You what?” This is one of the very specific callbacks she pitched to the writers during the episode’s table read. “Can we please have Kitty say the same thing Lara Jean did? I just know that fans are going to notice,” she said, and she was right on point.

Meanwhile, in episode eight, the ‘About Love’ by Marina needle-drop is a reference to the track featured in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before: PS I Still Love You.

Additionally, do you remember the pen Kitty picks up in LJ’s apartment to write her Senior Sunset list? Well, that’s actually the pen Peter brought back for Lara in season two. “Anyone who’s paying attention is going to all see those little freeze-framing moments and be able to get excited about the little things that we’ve laid in,” says Valentina Garza to Tudum.

While there are many more to go, all you need to keep is your eyes open because XO, Kitty season three is currently streaming on Netflix.
