Here’s every song on Max Richter's ‘Spaceman’ soundtrack

In the brand new sci-fi drama Spaceman, Adam Sandler takes on the role of an astronaut dispatched to the outer reaches of the solar system.

Directed by Johan Renck, known for his previous work on Chernobyl, the movie centres around Sandler’s astronaut Jakub Procházka, who encounters a mysterious being far from his home planet.

Joining Sandler in the cast are Carey Mulligan, Kunal Nayar, Lena Olin, and Isabella Rossellini. Additionally, Paul Dano lends his voice to the extraterrestrial spider creature in a deviation from his associative roles.

Spaceman is based on the 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfar. The highly anticipated title was finally added to the Netflix catalogue on March 1st and is already soaring through the streamer’s charts.

As an audiovisual feast, the movie benefits handsomely from a score composed by the legendary Max Richter. The classical and ambient composer has previously worked on soundtrack scores for Waltz With Bashir, The Leftovers and Ad Astra.

“The visual language of the film really informs your musical decisions,” Richter said about his new soundtrack. “The visual texture, the way the light is, and the haptics of the images really tell me a lot about how the music should feel.”

“The score’s palette is kind of 1970s-period electronics that have been treated with ’70s effects – recorded on tape as they would have been recorded back then,” he added. “And then we have acoustic instrumentation that is mostly strings, some piano, and the strings we’ve done in two layers: a very closely mic-ed, intimate sound and also big-picture strings.”

On top of his usual domain of atmospheric, symphonious scapes, Richter mixed things up with a couple of collaborations, including that with Sparks on ‘Don’t Go Away’. Listen to the entire soundtrack album below.
