Every song in the 'That '90s show' soundtrack

Set 15 years after the beloved original sitcom, That ’90s Show is a revival sequel to That ’70s Show and has been released on Netflix. It focuses on the teenage daughter of two original characters as she spends the summer with her grandparents.

That ’70s Show ran for eight seasons between August 1998 and May 2006. The series followed the lives of six teenage friends living in the fictional town of Point Place, Wisconsin, and was plagued with ’70s aesthetics and sounds.

That ’90s Show stars Callie Haverda as teenager Leia, daughter of Topher Grace’s Eric and Laura Prepon’s Donna. Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith play grandparents Kitty and Red. The sequel also features other original cast members reprising their roles in guest appearances, including Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher as Jackie Burkhart and Michael Kelso.

“I wanted to have the same feeling as ‘That 70s Show did,” Mettler says. “The show had a very special tone,” show writer Gregg Mettler told Variety. “It was playful, it had a heart, it was sarcastic, it was filled with love within this family, within the friend group. I missed being in the basement with those kids.”

As an extension of its emphasis on ’90s nostalgia and pop culture, the show features a string of classic music from the decade. Mettler looked to the defining grunge culture of the ’90s for inspiration, reworking Big Star’s ‘In The Street’, That ’70s Show’s original theme, into a grungier style.

“I love all the music from the ’90s, all the genres, and we try our best to weave them all into the show,” Mettler added. “And so, there’s something for everybody inside the show.”

The series was composed by Smashing Pumpkins co-founder James Iha, who recorded a demo with Mettler’s daughter on vocals. The Donnas’ former lead singer Brett Anderson then recorded the track with Iha.
