Every song featured on the 'Ripley' soundtrack

The new television series Ripley, which landed on Netflix a couple of weeks ago, is one of the most talked about shows on the streaming platform as of late. The engaging dialogue and excellent acting contribute towards this massively, as does the exciting soundtrack, but what songs are actually featured?

Andrew Scott steals the show in this series as he takes on the title role in the most recent adaptation of the classic 1955 Patricia Highsmith novel, The Talented Mr Ripley. He stars alongside Johnny Flynn and Dakota Fanning.

The series is shot entirely in black and white, and Scott’s character takes a job assignment that sees him have to fly to Italy and convince his employer’s son, Dicki Greenleaf, to leave Europe and come home. The series progresses, and Scott becomes deeper and deeper entrenched within the lives of Dickie and his girlfriend, Marge. As the tale progresses, the story takes a steadily darker and darker turn.

This isn’t the first time that the Ripley story has been adapted. For instance, in 1999, the novel was turned into a feature film that starred Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow in the starring roles. The new series has Steven Zaillian at the helm, responsible for the likes of Gangs of New York and Schindler’s List, with all eight episodes available to view now.

The exciting soundtrack is one of the most captivating things about the new series. The score was put together by Jeff Russo, the founder of the bands Low Stars and Tonic. He has also worked on the soundtracks for Star Trek: Discovery and Fargo

When talking about putting the music together, he said, “The final score for Ripley is the result of two years of writing for a story that is so extraordinarily well crafted, the music just seemed to flow out effortlessly somehow.” He continued, “The thrilling and emotionally manipulative narrative contains so much tension, confusion and misdirection, and it was incredible to channel into that dynamic for this score.”

In addition to having a good score, there are a number of well-known songs attached to the series. They vary from contemporary pop music to Italian operas. See the whole list of songs below.
