Every show Netflix renewed and cancelled so far in 2025
The streaming journey with Netflix has been unusually fulfilling thus far. And with still a few months to end 2025, Netflix has plenty of surprises hidden in its coattails.
This year’s streaming roster trickled with everything viewers wanted, from gripping small-town mysteries to haunting true-crime stories. But nothing probably had them elated as much as the greenlights for the original productions.
Yet, just like Netflix kept fans on their toes with renewals, it also left them heartbroken with gut-punching cancellations. So far in 2025, Netflix has abandoned a total of seven shows. And even though the number of renewals is twice as much, the cancellations still sting like a bee. While it’s easy to get lost in the current of content flowing on Netflix, here’s a recap of every show Netflix has renewed and cancelled to date this year.
While it’s one thing to know whether a show is returning or not, Netflix’s No Good Deed is currently on an indefinite pause. Earlier in July, Deadline reported that the series had not yet been cancelled. But creator Liz Feldman has been offered an opportunity “to pitch a new idea for a second instalment.”
Beginning in January, Netflix broke quite a few hearts by axing The Sandman after just two seasons, while it renewed The Lincoln Lawyer and Selling the OC for their fourth instalments. Although the latter two are returning, fans are about to witness massive casting shakeups in both cases. Netflix also renewed Love is Blind for two more instalments through season 10 before the eighth season could even premiere.
Moving on in February, Netflix gave the greenlight for the third season and final season of The Empress on the fifth, followed by XO, Kitty on Valentine’s Day. The early episode titles for what’s to come from the latter were recently revealed as well. However, amidst the buzz of returning shows, Netflix threw the Australian series Territory quietly under the bus on February 20th, according to multiple online reports. Within a week or so, it also renewed Outlast for a third lap.
Netflix kicked off March with the cancellation of The Recruit after two seasons. But just a day later, on March 6th, it gave Running Point the green signal for a second season, followed by a renewal for With Love, Meghan, the next day. The second season of Meghan Markle’s hit Netflix show was released on August 26th. Similarly, on March 12th, the streaming giant also renewed Beauty in Black for a second season, adhering to a two-part release. The first part recently hit the shelves on September 11th.
Speaking of April renewals, Netflix dropped back-to-back good news with the second season of Temptation Island, North of North, Geek Girl, and the fifth season of Sweet Magnolias. Meanwhile, in May, it greenlighted Love on the Spectrum for a fourth instalment, Bridgerton for a fifth and sixth instalment, Forever and Million Dollar Secret for a second instalment, and My Life with the Walter Boys for a third one. But that’s not it.
Netflix additionally renewed The Diplomat for a fourth season, Survival of the Thickest for its final season, and The Four Seasons for a second season. June saw the renewal arc of Bad Thoughts, Ransom Canyon, and Bet for their second seasons alongside the two-season renewal for My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman. Tires was renewed for a third instalment in July, while Pulse and The Residence were axed after the debut season.
Netflix confirmed the return of Queer Eye on July 9th for its tenth and final instalment, also renewing Squid Game: The Challenge for its third season a day later. July also brought the renewal news for Wednesday’s third season, Virgin River’s eighth season, and Untamed’s second season. Walking into August, Netflix cut short the era of FUBAR. However, One Piece and America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders were both greenlit for a third season.
Good news also came in for Dept Q fans, following a second season renewal in August. But Netflix had gut-punching news for The Waterfront fans, which was officially cancelled after just one season. Meanwhile, the streamer confirmed the ending seasons of Wolf King and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. And by the time we walked towards September, Leanne and The Hunting Wives were confirmed to return.
