Every show and film leaving Netflix in August 2022

With the advent of a new month filled with exciting releases of both shows and films studded through the month of September, it is important to take notice of the memorable ones that have kept us company on the streamer. Netflix’s ritual of monthly removals is very similar to the one of its releases.

The streamer gets a lot of licensed content, which bids us farewell throughout a month according to the expiry date set for each of these contracts. When the contracts expire, both the content owner and the streamer can either terminate their existing agreement or renew it. The ones that get terminated get added to the list of shows and series that are removed from the platform accordingly.

For Netflix, September brings forth several new films and movies exclusively. The list of genres to be offered includes horror, thriller, romance, drama, and of course, Netflix’s new favourite chain of docuseries. A special highlight on a biopic called Blonde, based on Hollywood’s favourite superstar, Marilyn Monroe. The movie follows the story of her life and death and is adapted from Joyce Carol Oates’s book of the same name, launched in the year 2000.

The gorgeous and gifted Ana de Armas plays the role of the phenomenal protagonist under Andrew Dominik’s direction. The film reverses the perspective by making Monroe the narrator of her own life, in a way taking back agency and internalizing her gaze. Being born in Los Angeles as “just another girl” called Norma Jeane Mortenson, the story will follow her journey to becoming one of the most iconic personalities in the late 1950s and ’60s (the period of musicals). This film will not only be showcasing the darker sides of the Hollywood industry, which was popularly called the star machine back in the day but also highlight the role women played within the industry in a pre-feminist era.

As Cobra Kai takes over the sail of the next month’s ship, noteworthy sailors that leave us at the end of August 2022 are James Cameron’s classic 26-year-old romance Titanic starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio alongside classics by Martin Scorsese like Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and a fan-favourite The Departed.

Exciting news for horror admirers involves an eye-catching, gradual, and exciting revival of the old genre. Netflix has gifted us with an array of captivating options to choose from for a downtime treat. Horror flicks like Apostle, Umma, The Wretched, The Ritual and Thirteen Ghosts continue to envelop viewers in thrilling journeys through the dark. However, films of the same genre that will leave us by the end of this month are James Wan’s The Conjuring, Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street and Rob Zombie’s remake of Halloween.
