Netflix emerged in the race for the 2024 Oscars with an impressive 18 nominations across ten titles, including May December, Society of the Snow, and Maestro.
The streaming giant outpaced its closest rival, Apple TV+, which secured 13 nods. Netflix’s triumph was spearheaded by the Bradley Cooper-helmed Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro, which earned seven nominations, including the coveted Best Picture nod.
The streaming giant’s total Oscar nomination count now sits at an impressive 150. Netflix’s strategic spending on award-season campaigns, coupled with a lineup of biopics—which largely fall into the ‘Oscar bait’ category—proved to be a winning formula. Netflix’s nominees, including Maestro, Rustin, and Nyad, will contend for the coveted statuettes.
The competitive landscape has Netflix flexing its muscles with notable nominations for major contenders like Poor Things, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Oppenheimer.
