It’s been another impressive year for Netflix so far following the success of hit original shows like Bridgerton, and things don’t look set to slow down in May.
44-titles are arriving on the streaming giant over the month, including the highly anticipated season two of Ragnorak and the third instalment of Aziz Ansari’s hit sitcom, Master Of None. It’s been four years since Ansari appeared on screen as Dev Shah, but next month will see him reconvene the role for the much-awaited third series.
Production for the show first began last Spring; then, the pandemic forced it to stop. However, earlier this year, Ansari was spotted filming the series in London. The second series had a sexual harassment storyline before Ansari was accused of misconduct allegations at the comedian. In his 2019 Netflix special, Right Now, Ansari addressed the complaints and said: “Ultimately, I just felt terrible that this person felt this way.”
Meanwhile, the streaming service has upped its subscriber base by 1.8 million across Europe in the first quarter of 2021. “We believe paid membership growth slowed due to the big Covid-19 pull forward in 2020 and a lighter content slate in the first half of this year, due to Covid-19 production delays,” the company said in its quarterly letter to shareholders. “We continue to anticipate a strong second half with the return of new seasons of some of our biggest hits and an exciting film lineup.”
