Every movie coming to Netflix this month: August 2025

From spy stints to karate kicks, the July roster on Netflix was a cinematic minefield. The streaming giant may have taken a step back this week on the movies front with handpicked releases like A Normal Woman and Happy Gilmore 2. But the cinematic sky looks clear in August. So, for those seeking answers about the movies coming to Netflix this August, here’s what they should keep an eye out for.

Action outings with Netflix have become an everyday occurrence in July. But the company is straightening things up with a rom-com arrival on the first day of August starring Sofia Carson, My Oxford Year. However, to counterbalance the feel-good, Espantaho, AKA Scarecrow, the Philippine supernatural horror film, is also hitting the shelves that day. And knowing Netflix, it cannot keep its hands off of action thrillers anytime soon, as it brings the John Cena-led Freelance on August 2nd.

Netflix takes a leap with what’s next on the streamer to August 13th, bringing the much-awaited Genndy Tartakovsky-directed animated flick, Fixed. The Netflix original production tells the story of a dog whose life turns upside down when his owners neuter him. A Netflix original documentary film, Songs From the Hole, is coming to Netflix that day, narrating the story of a 15-year-old incarcerated musician who seeks forgiveness and healing with music.

On August 15th, Night Always Comes will be released. Netflix has been fanning the flames of the German thriller, Fall for Me, for some time now. Slated to be released on August 21st, for those uninitiated, this steamy brand-new erotic thriller follows Lilli and Tom, who chance encounter each other on the island of Mallorca, entangling themselves in a romantic affair. Thus, fans should warm up for back-to-back nail-biters.

Christina Henne, Quirin Berg, and Max Wiedemann serve as executive producers for Wiedemann & Berg Film alongside associate producer Friederike Weykamp. Interestingly, this is the same production company that produced relatively recent Netflix hits Brick (2025), Crooks (2024), and 60 Minutes (2024). One Hit Wonder, another rom-com title, hits Netflix on August 21st.

A Netflix original buddy comedy film awaits in the pipeline, Fantasy Football Ruined Our Lives. Scheduled to drop on August 27th, this Italian sports comedy, Fantasy Football Ruined Our Lives, revolves around the zany bunch of the Mai una gioia Fantasy Football League, a group of friends-turned-suspects in the disappearance of the league’s reigning champ, Gianni.

Netflix is wrapping up the movie marathon with a Netflix original adaptation, The Thursday Murder Club, on August 29th. From the coattails of Chris Columbus, The Thursday Murder Club follows a group of retirees who solve cold case murders until their casual sleuthing takes a deadly turn with a real case on the board.

As we transition from July to August, Netflix isn’t reinventing the wheel. Rather, it is reinforcing the winning formula. The August lineup offers a potent mix of thrills, comedy, nostalgia, and introspection, all packed into one compelling cinematic slate. In fact, August promises to be less of a casual scroll and more of a full-throttle cinematic ride. So, buckle up, while there’s time.
