Every movie and series leaving Netflix this week: August 2025
Finally, a week where Netflix is not coming for our throats. Usually, these “leaving soon” lists are a graveyard of shows and movies we love, but this time? This time, we need to be grateful that we have an extremely short list. No series is saying goodbye, and only three films are leaving the catalogue.
Three. That is practically a holiday compared to some weeks when entire favourites vanish overnight. Still, if you’ve been putting these titles off, consider this your last warning.
First up is Melancholia, leaving August 25th, and honestly, this is one of those films you don’t just watch, you experience. This Lars von Trier masterpiece is about depression, family, and, oh yeah, the possible end of the world. Kirsten Dunst delivers one of the best performances of her career, the kind that sticks with you long after the credits roll. This is not the movie you throw on while folding laundry. It is the kind of thing you watch when you are ready to be emotionally wrecked in the most cinematic way. And if it has been sitting on your list, now is the time, because it’s gone after the weekend.
Then there’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which exits on August 26th. This one couldn’t be more different. The best part about it is that you don’t need to have played a single tabletop game in your life to get into it. Chris Pine is charming as ever, Michelle Rodriguez is swinging axes, Hugh Grant is chewing the scenery, and somehow it all just works. It is clever and goofy, and it is exactly the kind of movie that makes a random Tuesday night feel like a good time. It didn’t just win over D&D fans, it actually managed to pull in mainstream audiences and remind us that fantasy can be hilarious as well as epic.
The last one is Kardec, leaving on August 29th, and this is more of a hidden gem. It is a Brazilian drama about Allan Kardec, the founder of Spiritism, and it follows his transformation from teacher to spiritual leader in 19th-century France. It’s a completely different vibe from the other two. If you are curious about history or just want something that makes you think instead of just entertaining, this one’s worth checking out.
So yeah, compared to the weeks when we lose entire shows in one go, this round feels manageable. Only three films are leaving, no heartbreak on the series front, and a little bit of something for everyone. Still, Netflix’s revolving door waits for no one, so if you want to catch them before they are gone, the clock is ticking.
