Every movie and series leaving Netflix this week: April and May 2026

Netflix is the only place that can give you pleasure and pain all in one go, and this week’s departure list proves our point very poetically. It’s a bit of a strange week on Netflix, if we’re being honest.

April more or less slips out the door without making a scene because you just have on departure: Harold and the Purple Crayon is leaving on the 30th, and that’s it. Easy enough to miss. But then you have malevolent May turning, and it is coming for your life. It’s sadder because it is taking away many classics with it, some of which just showed up on the platform.

The big hit comes straight away on May 1st with the Mission: Impossible films all heading off together. We are talking Mission: Impossible, Mission: Impossible 2, Mission: Impossible III, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. That’s not one or two films; that’s your entire long weekend binge plans getting cancelled in one go. If you’ve ever thought about revisiting them, this is your moment. Take a day off if you have to.

Next in line are the Jaws movies that are going to drop many jaws with their departures. You have Jaws, Jaws 2, and Jaws 3-D all leaving on the same day. The first one alone is worth your time. It still manages to make you uneasy about water. We agree that Netflix just gave us Thrash, but losing all three shark masterpieces together feels like a bit of a blow.

If you love yourself and something lighter, then sad news for you, as How to Train Your Dragon films are also leaving Netflix. Both How to Train Your Dragon and How to Train Your Dragon 2. The ultimate easy watch movies, and they end up getting pulled in anyway. Good story, good characters without trying too hard. Their leaving together feels a bit unfair, doesn’t it?

There’s also a strong batch of serious films leaving at the same time. 12 Years a Slave is a hard-hitting historical drama, and we also have Whiplash, which is about a young drummer pushed to his limits by a ruthless instructor, and it’s as intense as it sounds.

Erin Brockovich is also leaving, which is a sad day for all of us, and so is Darkest Hour, which looks at Winston Churchill’s early days as prime minister during World War II. Altogether, it’s these films that carry strong performances and are based on real events, so say bye to them.

On the crime and drama side, Sicario and Hell or High Water are both on their way out. Both are worth a watch if you like something a bit more serious. Oh, and You’ve Got Mail is also leaving, so get one last binge of this comfort watch.

By May 2, things slow down a bit, but there are still a couple worth your time. Train to Busan is the big one. This Netflix movie goes beyond its genre. It’s not just about zombies; it actually gives you something to care about. So if you have missed it somehow, you’ve got to watch it as soon as possible.

So while April ends with only one, May is coming with a wave, and you’d better take a last swim.
