Every movie and series coming to Netflix this August

Netflix has a teeming August ahead, and some of these titles are the ones people have been waiting for since January. Let’s see what’s in the box: A killer mascot sequel? Check. A convent hiding something horrific? Check. The Pogues heading into their last season? Check. Oh, this month has plans.

Starting the month is Kid Detective, which is releasing on August 1st. We know, we know; you’ve been missing Adam Brody since Nobody Wants This, but he is back this time, playing a former child sleuth who grew up without becoming the great detective his town expected. He spends his days handling small cases until a teenager asks him to solve a murder. And there it is, the moment the film stops feeling cute.

Then comes Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 on August 3rd. Yes, Freddy Fazbear is back. Great news for horror fans. Terrible news for anyone who finds mascots troubling. The sequel returns to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza and delves into the disappearances tied to the restaurant. Fans of the games should watch every corner of the screen.

Immaculate arrives on August 13th, with Sydney Sweeney playing a young American nun who joins a convent in Italy. She then discovers she is pregnant, despite there being no possible explanation. The convent calls it a miracle. Of course it does! She begins to suspect that the truth has nothing holy about it. Spooky and mysterious… Those are Netflix’s two favourite genres.

The Whisper Man arrives on August 28th after a long wait. Adam Scott plays a widowed writer whose son is abducted. He asks his estranged father, a retired detective played by Robert De Niro, for help. The case may connect to a serial killer who sits behind bars. So who took the boy? That is the hook. The film is based on Alex North’s novel, and Michelle Monaghan also stars.

The series lineup starts making noise on August 5th with One Hundred Years of Solitude part two. The story returns to Macondo as the Buendía family moves towards the end of its long history. Names repeat, and so do the mistakes. Wait, who is related to whom again? Keep a family tree nearby. No shame in it.

Ah, one of the most anticipated releases of August, My Life with the Walter Boys returns for season three on August 6th. Jackie is back in Silver Falls, and the Alex-Cole situation has not gone away. Of course it has not. This love triangle is far away from resting. However, this new season should force Jackie to think about what she wants from her future, not just who she wants beside her. About time, don’t you think?

Then Outer Banks returns for season five on August 20th. This is the final season, and the Pogues are carrying the weight of JJ’s death. Treasure is no longer the whole mission, and revenge has entered the picture. Uh-oh! This group has never made safe choices, so anger will not help. The big question is whether they can finish the fight without losing anyone else.

Tires, season three, Leanne season two and Graveyard season three also arrive in August. But the biggest attention may fall on Outer Banks. And that’s August for you.
