Every film and series leaving Netflix this week: August 2023

Every week, Netflix presents an ever-changing lineup of movies and series to entertain its vast audience. As we bid farewell to another week in August, it’s time to say goodbye to a bunch of films and shows that will soon depart the streaming platform.

While each departure leaves a void in our watchlists, there is one title that stands out among the rest—Dunkirk.

On August 13th, Dunkirk will be leaving Netflix. Directed by Christopher Nolan, this 2017 historical war epic takes us back to one of the most significant events of World War II: the Dunkirk evacuation. The film masterfully weaves together three parallel storylines, showcasing the harrowing experiences of soldiers stranded on the beaches of Dunkirk, the daring rescue mission of civilian boats across the English Channel, and the efforts of Royal Air Force pilots engaging in dogfights to protect the evacuation. Through a tense and immersive narrative, Dunkirk captures the sheer intensity, bravery, and human spirit that prevailed during this critical moment in history, all with minimal use of dialogue.

Starring an ensemble cast, including Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, and Harry Styles in his acting debut, Dunkirk received widespread critical acclaim for its direction, cinematography, and Hans Zimmer’s evocative score earned numerous accolades and Academy Award nominations.

A few other movies and series leave this week as well. On August 7th, the documentary Stars in the Sky: A Hunting Story (2018) takes its final bow. This documentary delves into the world of hunting, exploring the personal and cultural significance of this age-old practice.

On August 9th, the Chinese romantic drama Pretty Man (2018) makes its exit. This captivating film follows the story of a young woman who transforms an unattractive man into a handsome heartthrob to save her family’s failing cosmetic business. As the man gains popularity, their lives take unexpected turns.

On August 11th, the historical K-drama series The Crowned Clown leaves. Set in the Joseon era of Korean history, the series revolves around a commoner who becomes the stand-in for a king facing threats to his life.

Moreover, the children’s animated series Kongsuni and Friends seasons one and two depart this week too. And there are a few more things.
