Every film and series leaving Netflix this week: April 2024

This week Netflix bids farewell to a bunch of new and old titles from its library. Amidst the many generic departures, one title stands out as a must-watch before it leaves, and that is Aditya Vikram Sengupta’s Jonaki (translated: Firefly).

Jonaki is indeed a cinematic gem that demands attention. Directed by Sengupta, this masterpiece weaves a poetic narrative. Set against the backdrop of Kolkata’s decaying grandeur, Jonaki follows an 80-year-old comatose woman’s surreal journey through her fragmented memories, dreams, and desires. It’s a hauntingly beautiful exploration of the passage of time. Don’t let Jonaki slip away unnoticed.

Alongside Jonaki, other notable departures include the adrenaline-fueled drama Rush, the mind-bending sci-fi thriller Synchronic, and the historical drama The Zookeeper’s Wife. Additionally, fans of horror and fantasy will have to say farewell to the chilling tale of Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak

The typical Adam Sandler comedy You Don’t Mess with the Zohan leaves as well. The film follows an Israeli counterterrorist commando who fakes his death after becoming tired of his job. As Zohan moves to New York City to become a hairstylist as he always dreamed, the film also manages to poke fun at every Palestinian caricature that exists.

Furthermore, a variety of acclaimed Indian films, including Delhi Belly, Dhobi Ghat (Mumbai Diaries), Taare Zameen Par, and Peepli Live, will also be leaving the platform. Apart from Taare Zameen Par (which was a commercial and critical hit in its own right), the rest are critically acclaimed films with an experimental streak that deserve one last watch.

This is also your last chance to catch Nathalie Biancheri’s absurd Irish-Polish psychological drama Wolf on Netflix. Plus, there is more that is leaving, from Filipino dramedy Four Sisters Before the Wedding to the documentary that traces the deadly effects of texting while driving, From One Second to the Next. So, what will you be catching before it leaves for good?
