Every film and series leaving Netflix this month: August 2024

The first of the month always brings with it sweeping changes to the Netflix content library, with time running out for subscribers to tick certain movies and TV shows off their watch lists before they disappear for good.

There are few things more frustrating than having something marked for future viewing, only to discover when the time comes that it’s not even on the platform anymore, and there are some heavy hitters, major blockbusters, and beloved classics preparing to bid farewell before the end of August.

Prime among them is the family-friendly Paddington, the delightfully whimsical adventure that ranks as one of the best-reviewed movies in the history of cinema. Whether it deserves that status is entirely down to personal preference at the end of the day, but anyone that’s seen it will be the first to declare that it most definitely is.

Violas Davis’ hard-hitting historical epic The Woman King is also on the way out, as well as legacy sequel Dumb and Dumber To, just to offer an indication of how much variety is preparing to bid farewell to Netflix before moving onto different – but not necessarily greener – streaming pastures.

‘Best Picture’ winner Everything Everywhere All at Once, instant cult classic animation and Academy Award nominee Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, Ben Affleck’s bruising action thriller The Accountant, the Coen brothers’ crime caper Burn After Reading, and Eddie Murphy’s Nutty Professor duology are gearing up to wave goodbye to Netflix, too, so time is of the essence to get them watched as soon as possible.

Two of cinema’s three Spider-Men are lined up for the Netflix guillotine, with Tobey Maguire’s Sam Raimi-directed trilogy and Andrew Garfield’s two Marc Webb-helmed outings set for the chopping block, but it’s not as if every single title departing Netflix in August is worth shedding a tear over.

After all, both of the live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle reboots and Adam Sandler’s wretched That’s My Boy surely aren’t going to be missed all that much. Then again, much like there’s an arse for every seat in this world, there’s a pair of eyeballs for every movie.
