Every film and series leaving Netflix in May 2024

As the calendar flips to May, Netflix subscribers will have to say goodbye to some of their beloved films and series. From heart-pounding thrillers to laugh-out-loud comedies, here’s a rundown of what’s leaving Netflix in May 2024. The rollout begins with Magic Mike’s Last Dance on May 1st and ends with You’ve Got Mail on May 31st.

One of the most notable departures this month is the gripping thriller Uncut Gems, directed by the Safdie Brothers and starring Adam Sandler in a career-defining role. The film follows Howard Ratner, a charismatic New York City jeweller with a gambling addiction, as he navigates high-stakes bets and dangerous foes. Its departure from Netflix is due to the expiration of the platform’s first-window deal with A24, with rights shifting to Showtime.

Fans will also be sad to bid farewell to The Hunger Games franchise. Based on Suzanne Collins’s bestselling novels, the four-part film adaptation is leaving Netflix this month. The series, comprised of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and the two-part finale, Mockingjay, catapulted Jennifer Lawrence to international stardom and became a cultural phenomenon. Set in a dystopian future where teenagers are forced to compete in a televised fight to the death, these films are a must-watch for fans of the YA dystopian genre.

Other notable departures this month include The Great Gatsby, Baz Luhrmann’s visually stunning adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel; Boyz n the Hood, John Singleton’s powerful coming-of-age drama set in South Central Los Angeles; and Split, M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological thriller featuring James McAvoy’s as a man with multiple personalities. Horror fans will have to say goodbye to James Wan’s paranormal fest Insidious, starring Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson.

More Adam Sandler features are leaving the platform this month, including Happy Gilmore. The romantic classic You’ve Got Mail and the irreverent superhero spoof The Other Guys, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, will also leave in May. Films like Where the Crawdads Sing and Fifty Shades of Black, as well as nostalgic series like Mako Mermaids: An H2O Adventure, will be departing from Netflix in May as well. And there is more, of course.
