‘Emily in Paris’ season five touches down in Italy with new cast
Emily in Paris is happening! And if viewers remember correctly, she is landing straight in Italy, this time. But word on the Netflix street is that Lily Collins has already touched down in Rome, meaning Emily Cooper is just around the corner. For those still away from Instagram, charge your phones, and pause the social hibernation right away because Emily in Paris season five kicked off production in the Land of Amore. And joining this journey in Italy are new names.
Lily Collins shared a selfie on Instagram alongside a video with co-star Eugenio Franceschini, who portrays Marcello in Emily in Paris, to announce the production status in May. It was from the first day of filming in the city. But according to a Netflix update dated July 2nd, 2025, Emily and the production team will return to Paris this summer. It’s unclear what that could mean for Emily and Marcello. But it’s a scoop to think about.
Creator Darren Star said to Tudum, “The cast and crew of Emily in Paris are thrilled to begin filming Season 5 in the Eternal City.” Since the fifth season is beginning in Italy, a change from the Parisian landscape might do well for the audience as well as Emily. This upcoming season will see returning characters, including Collins and Franceschini.
But besides them, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Samuel Arnold, Lucas Bravo, Ashley Park, and more mainstays are returning. However, Emily in Paris will also see new cast members, including Michele Laroque and Bryan Greenberg. Laroque is set to portray Yvette, supposedly a friend of Sylvie’s from back in the day. Meanwhile, Greenberg will portray Jake, an American expat in Paris, pretty much like Emily.
Interestingly, that’s not all. In addition to Laroque and Greenberg, Oscar-nominated Minnie Driver has joined Emily in Paris season five as Princess Jane. She, too, is a friend of Sylvie’s, who’s a bit of a royalty. The last season ended on a lovey-dovey note with Emily’s love story brewing with Marcello. And it ended with her relocation to an Italian apartment following attempts to establish an office in Rome for Agence Grateau.
The reason Star sent Emily to Rome was that he desired to “stay ahead of the audience and take them to unexpected places.” It was intentionally done to ensure a global footprint for Emily in Paris with Emily in Rome. He explained, “It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris, but she’s going to have a presence in Rome.”
Speaking of Emily in Rome with Marcello, Collins told Tudum, “Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance.” She confirmed that Emily’s brewing romance with Marcello will be a highlight in season five. However, with Gabriel still in the scene, it remains to be seen if its Marcello or him, who wins at love.
