Elon Musk responds to Tesla crash in 'Leave the World Behind'

Tesla and Twitter boss Elon Musk has surprisingly offered his take on the car pileup in the Netflix film Leave the World Behind.

In the apocalypse movie, which stars Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke and Mahershala Ali, there’s a scene where Model 3 Teslas drive themselves into a catastrophic pileup on the road leading into New York City. This comes amid a mysterious mass power outage and a possible cyber attack on the United States.

The scene is imbued with a particularly unsettling edge as it is all Tesla Model 3s that are piling up, playing into genuine fears about the cars’ losing control or being manipulated by other people.

However, in a Twitter thread started by Netflix sharing the clip of the scene in question, Elon Musk surprisingly responded, offering the consumer base a slight reassurance on the configuration of his cars and how they would work in the event of a societal collapse.

He wrote: “Teslas can charge from solar panels even if the world goes fully Mad Max and there is no more gasoline!”

Leave the World Behind had its world premiere on October 25th at AFI Fest. It was released in select theatres on November 22nd and arrived on Netflix on December 8th.
