Watch Eddie Murphy in the trailer for ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’

The first full trailer for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F has now been released. Actor Eddie Murphy is returning to his famous role from the original movies, with director Mark Molloy handling the project set to launch on Netflix on July 3rd.

The likes of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige and Kevin Bacon have all also joined the cast. Murphy will reprise his character, detective Axel Foley, and this time he will be tasked with saving his daughter’s life in the company of a new partner.

Murphy first played Foley back in 1984 in Martin Brest’s Beverly Hills Cop. The film was a box office hit, which led to a series of sequel movies, the last of which arrived on screens three decades ago, which had also been commercially successful.

However, Murphy hadn’t been best pleased with the sequel movies and once noted in an interview with Rolling Stone, “Beverly Hills Cop 2 was probably the most successful mediocre picture in history. Cop 2 was basically a rehash of Cop 1, but it wasn’t as spontaneous and funny.”

In fact, Murphy claimed that the third Beverly Hills Cop movie was “garbage”, which he admitted before Axel F had been announced. When asked whether there ought to be a fourth movie in the franchise, Murphy admitted that it “has to be right” before he would consider taking it on.

Now, though, the fourth film has been completed and excitement is growing ahead of its release in July. Mark Molloy found great interesting in working with the iconic actor and comedian.

He recently noted, “Eddie’s such an incredible artist. He can do drama, he can do comedy – he can do anything.” In fact, Molloy found a similarity in Murphy with his Beverly Hill Cop character.

The director added, “And he’s the same Axel Foley. He’s still on the streets. He’s still doing what he does. Obviously, with age, you get wiser. But he still has the twinkle in his eye”.

Murphy has been afforded the opportunity to flex his comedic muscles in the fourth movie in the franchise, and Molloy admitted that the best moments of the film have come when the actor was in full flow.

Will Beall, Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten have written the script for Axel F, while Murphy, Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman are all producing. Check out the trailer for the movie below.
