Does Judi Spannagel still stand as a threat in ‘Wednesday’ season two, part two?
Everybody thought the stalker from Wednesday‘s first season would be the next big bad in the follow-up. But the Netflix creators pulled a rug from under, revealing the Avian to be just another outcast hater boiling with vengeance, Judi Spannagel, the outwardly benign assistant of Dr Fairburn at the Willow Hill Psychiatric Facility.
Judi racked up quite a body count in Wednesday‘s season two, part one. Starting with Carl Bradbury to Sheriff Galpin, this mysterious Avian even had the Addams’ child on her toes. She even managed to pull a smokescreen so convincing that Wednesday almost thought Dr Fairburn was behind it all. Until came the big bold reveal.
Speaking to Tudum about the plot twist, Miles Millar said, “We love the idea of leading the audience down the path and thinking that Dr Fairburn is the bad guy. And then revealing that, actually, the hooded figure is Judi, the ditzy assistant.” She has a compelling backstory, and it all dates back to her father, Augustus Stonehearst, the founder of the brutal LOIS program.
Stonehearst wanted to become an outcast with the power of telekinesis. However, his body was unable to handle the extreme experimentation. What he did succeed with, though, was turning Judi into an expert Avian. It goes without saying that Wednesday Addams is indeed a threat to Judi. But is Judi a threat to count on in season two, part two?
After it becomes clear that the bubbly assistant is the crow-controlling serial killer, a lot more goes down in Willow Hill. With the help of Wednesday, the outcasts break out from the facility, and Judi is chased into the night by them. Meanwhile, Slurp gets the best of Dr Fairburn and Stonehearst as the mighty Hyde leaves Wednesday comatose.
Judi incredibly underestimates Wednesday’s sleuthing skills, and honestly, that was the first misstep. One should really know adversaries better. But whether we have truly seen the last of Judi is a question that troubles every mind. Part one didn’t exactly give those answers. But while speaking to Tudum, actor Heather Matarazzo floated some ideas for the next part.
“I was like, ‘What if she had a twin?’ I’ve always wanted to play a twin, as somebody who grew up watching All My Children and One Life to Live. There’s always that crazy twist,” Matarazzo added. Of course, she didn’t easily give up on whether an evil twin arc truly awaits; she did leave a little tease, “even if you were considered dead, it doesn’t mean that you are necessarily gone.” So, fans cannot really rule out the threat because they never really know.
