Did you know Netflix has an R-rated animated dog movie?
If you think you misread the title, then you didn’t. Netflix really does have an R-rated animated dog movie, and no, it is not the kind of thing you can throw on for “family movie night” unless your family likes raunchy canine humour, multiple jokes about anatomy, and the kind of wild antics that would make Sausage Party blush.
It is none other than the June 2025 release Fixed. It is directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, who has also directed legendary movies like Samurai Jack and Hotel Transylvania. But this time, Tartakovsky decided to use a different approach and hand-drew this cartoon. The hilarious storyline of the film revolves around a dog who has just found out he’s getting neutered.
The plot is exactly as unhinged as it sounds. Bull, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier with more confidence than sense, overhears that tomorrow is “the big snip”. Instead of sulking or running away, he rallies his crew of animal friends and sets off to have one last wild night before his, well, balls are history.
And this is a dog doing human adventures. Think booze, hookups, strip clubs, and the kind of dialogue that makes you wonder whether it is possible for a cartoon dog to say that. Spoiler: yes, yes it is.
But here’s the thing: Fixed is not all about the shock value. Between the raunch and ridiculousness, the movie brings in some surprising moments of heart. Can you imagine the film has a dog character who is intersex? Unlike the real world, he gets treated with empathy and respect, which is so heartwarming to watch.
Of course, there are ridiculous jokes in the film, but there are heartwarming moments too that’ll make your day.
What makes this movie funny to bring up is just how out of place it feels. Animated dog films usually end up in the wholesome section with Bolt or The Secret Life of Pets. Fixed skips that shelf completely and earns itself an R-rated certificate. It is hand-drawn and proudly filthy, and you can almost picture the Netflix execs raising an eyebrow when they first saw the pitch.
But let us make this one thing clear: this isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. Some viewers will roll their eyes and call it juvenile. But that is kind of the point. Fixed leans into its immaturity so hard that it becomes oddly charming. You don’t go into a movie about a dog’s last night before neutering expecting subtlety. You go in for the mayhem, the absurdity, and the kind of jokes you probably shouldn’t laugh at but will anyway.
So, did you know Netflix has an R-rated animated dog movie? You do now. And the next time you are scrolling and get bored of the same thrillers and rom-coms, maybe give Fixed a shot. Worst case, you will spend ninety minutes thinking, “What the hell am I watching?” Best case, you will laugh so hard you’ll end up recommending it to your friends. Either way, it beats another night of mindless scrolling.
