Run, people, because Netflix has got another steamy thriller flying up its charts, and this one has got a setup screaming trouble. Desire is a 2026 film about a married solicitor who falls for her daughter’s swimming coach. Messy, isn’t it?

Ludwika Paleta plays Lucero, a 47-year-old solicitor who has spent two decades married to Fernando. Her life looks sound, but the spark is gone. Then Fernando hires Matías to teach the family’s kids swimming. And kudos to Óscar Casas because he has enough charm to make every warning sign look like a proper invitation.

What starts with a few sneaky looks between Lucero and Matías soon becomes a family crisis, and once Lucero loses control of the secret, it goes from saucy to all hell kicking off.

Lucero crosses the line, and Matías gets into her private world. This is the exact escape she wanted, and it starts barging into her real life. Wham, bam, there goes the idea this can stay harmless. Matías doesn’t feel like some secret she can just fold away once the swimming lesson is finished.

The shocking twist comes knocking when Viviana, Lucero’s daughter, starts fancying him too. The affair isn’t hidden behind closed doors anymore, and it’s pushing into the family from inside. Mum and daughter are drawn to the same fella, while Fernando hasn’t got a clue what’s growing under his roof. What a joke!

Then it earns that thriller label. Desire starts with attraction, then lets obsession grab the wheel. Lucero tries her best to hang onto the life she built, but every choice leaves her fewer ways out. You’ll see menace starts leaking through every scene. It knows viewers came for steam but keeps them watching by turning attraction into something with proper teeth.

Paleta’s spoken about the film and how it focuses on desire in a grown woman. It doesn’t portray that being sexy is only for younger characters. Also, a point to be noted is that she is not some helpless victim who wandered into disaster. She wants Matías and she makes that choice. The sting comes when she realises choosing the fantasy doesn’t mean she controls what happens next, does it?

Desire marks Teresa Simone’s feature-directing debut. Giulia Cardamone and Vanessa Miklos have written the screenplay. The film premiered at the Guadalajara International Film Festival before its Mexican cinema release in May.

Netflix added Desire on July 17th, and before you know it, it climbed the charts in 27 countries. So, should you stick it on? If watching one bad decision turn into a nightmare is your thing with loads of steam, Desire has your evening sorted. It brings the va-va-voom, then yanks the rug from underneath it. The steam gets you through the door, but the family fallout keeps you there.
