Netflix continues to flex their muscles with their latest planned project, Leave The World Behind, which will star both Denzel Washington and Julia Roberts in the lead roles.
The streaming platform, who added an astonishing 10million new subscribers during the health crisis lockdown, recently committed their largest budget to date with the supremely ambitious project The Gray Man and now they continue to expand with Leave The World Behind.
The film, which is to be based on the upcoming Rumaan Alam novel, has also managed to land director Sam Esmail to helm the project. Esmail, who has previously worked with Roberts, is famed for his past projects such as Mr. Robot, Homecoming and more.
According to the official novel synopsis, Alam’s third book arrives as a “magnetic story about two families, strangers to each other, who are forced together on a long weekend gone terribly wrong.”
With what is thought to be a suspense drama, the book explores multiple core themes such as race, parenthood, social class and more. The synopsis claims that Leave The World Behind looks at “how our closest bonds are reshaped — and unexpected new ones are forged — in moments of crisis.”
The planned project would mark the first time both Washington and Roberts have worked together since the 1993 film The Pelican Brief.
