‘Death of the Pastor’s Wife’: Where is John-Paul Miller now?

American Murder: Gabby Petito directors Julia Willoughby Nason and Michael Gasparro have returned to Netflix with Death of the Pastor’s Wife, bringing to light Mica Miller’s tragic story, who was found dead in April 2024 at 30, in a case where there’s more than meets the eye.

Mica was the only one of six Francis siblings who took music and church that seriously, and it was in those that she found her calling when her family settled in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. At age 13, she came across John-Paul Miller, the pastor of Solid Rock Church, where her family began attending services.

Death of the Pastor’s Wife explores Mica’s life and mysterious, sudden death, which was officially ruled a suicide, paying close attention to her relationship with the pastor of her family’s church and her husband, John-Paul Miller, AKA JP whom a federal grand jury indicted on two counts: a cyberstalking charge alleging a pattern of harassment toward Mica from November 2022 until her death, and a charge for making false statements to federal investigators.

JP was a charismatic pastor and a gifted musician, 15 years older than Mica, who, according to her sister Sierra in the Netflix documentary, was “her [Mica] pastor, her mentor, her church leader.” In fact, when Mica married Jeremy, her first husband, JP officiated the ceremony, and she started working as the pastor’s assistant. However, that dynamic soon unravelled a few years into their marriage, when Mica and JP began an affair, gradually upending both their respective marriages.

They eventually tied the knot in 2017, but in the years that followed, the relationship only went downhill. While Mica tried to part ways with JP, it was easier said than done. However, she did ultimately serve him divorce papers in April 2024, just two days before she died.

Death of the Pastor’s Wife reconstructs the events leading up to her death, featuring firsthand interviews with those close to her, JP’s videotaped sermons and text messages, Mica’s journals, texts, and performance footage supplemented by police reports.

The series details how Mica was trapped through coercive control, documenting the tracking devices JP allegedly planted on her car and going as far as sharing her private pictures online without her consent.

Despite the federal indictment, JP pleaded not guilty and has not been charged in connection with Mica’s death. The trial was pushed back to the October 2026 term after a court-ordered continuance was filed in mid-August 2026, suggesting slow progression on the case. As for those wondering, John-Paul Miller is currently free on bond, awaiting trial, and has visibly moved on.

According to Netflix, JP married Suzie Skinner in June 2025, who reportedly leads worship in pop-up locations around Myrtle Beach, where he continues preaching to 15-20 people after the building and premises of Solid Rock Church were sold off.
