Dan Levy’s ‘Big Mistakes’ is officially returning for season two
Netflix’s tight-lipped silence about Dan Levy’s Big Mistakes was seriously getting torturous by the minute, but not anymore. Now, viewers can finally take a sigh of relief as the crime comedy drama is officially returning for a sophomore season.
Netflix has greenlighted the dark-comedy thriller for a second season, which means it’s about time the audience prepares for twice the dose of crime, chaos, and drama in what’s to come.
The streaming giant has extended its creative partnership with creator, showrunner, executive producer, and star Levy with a series first-look deal.
Speaking of the renewal, the Schitt’s Creek actor told Tudum, “Very grateful and beyond excited to continue the Big Mistakes adventure and my creative collaboration with Netflix. Season two is already in the works, and it’s going to be wild. I can’t wait to get it out there to everyone as soon as humanly possible.”
Big Mistakes tells the story of two incredibly incapable siblings, Nicky and Morgan, who find themselves deep in hot water when a seemingly harmless theft for their dying grandmother turns out to be their one-way ticket to the world of organised crime. As they’re coerced into completing dangerous tasks, every attempt to leave the underworld backfires, as every task assigned embroils them deeper into criminal chaos.
The first season of the hit crime-comedy series starred Levy as Nicky and Taylor Ortega as Morgan, who were joined by the likes of Laurie Metcalf, Abby Quin, Boran Kuzum, Jack Innanen, Elizabeth Perkins, Mark Ivanir, Ilia Volok, Jacob Gutierrez, and Joe Barbara.
While the plot and cast details of Big Mistakes season two are currently shrouded in mystery, the renewal expands Levy’s existing relationship with Netflix, which so far includes Good Grief (2024) and his appearance in the final season of Sex Education. In fact, his Emmy-winning Schitt’s Creek also made itself right at home on Netflix after landing in 2020.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Dan and to bring more of his wonderfully funny and compelling stories to life,” Tracey Pakosta, Netflix vice president, comedy series, US, said. “Big Mistakes is the most recent example of Dan’s singular voice and vision connecting with audiences around the world. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for season two.”
The second season will be shot in New Jersey, putting Big Mistakes in the club of Netflix projects such as Happy Gilmore 2, Office Romance, and The Whisper Man that have been filmed there. As for the rest of the details? Well, fans need to check back later for more updates.
