‘Criminopatía’: The true-crime podcast-to-series adaptation coming to Netflix

Netflix is stretching its hands beyond literary and video game adaptations with Clara Tiscar’s critically acclaimed true-crime podcast Criminopatía making its way onto screens.

You heard it right! The streaming giant recently announced the start of production on the upcoming documentary series that highlights the world and worldview of one of Spain’s leading voices in the narration, exploration, and analysis of true crime.

Criminopatía aims to delve deep into and beyond the mystery to shed light on violence, justice, and human behaviour from social and psychological standpoints. While the podcast has evolved into one of the biggest true-crime phenomena in Spanish, with almost 100million listens and 2million monthly plays, now that an audiovisual Netflix series is in the works, it only gets bigger from here.

The documentary series will tackle various true crimes from an analytical perspective, opting for a sensitive, calculated visual approach, backed by extensive research.

“I’m thrilled about this new challenge and the opportunity to bring the Criminopatía universe into the documentary format alongside Netflix. It has been years of researching and sharing stories, and this leap represents an opportunity to delve even deeper into the cases and approach them from a new visual and narrative perspective,” Tiscarr says. “Having the resources and ambition of a production like this is allowing us to take Criminopatía further than ever before, and the result is spectacular.”

Directed by Joanna Pardos and co-created by Pardos, Luis Calvo, and Javier Martínez, You First Originals produces Criminopatía, which turns a new chapter on Netflix’s catalogue of true crime.

In Criminopatía, Tiscar embarks on an emotional and physical journey, addressing the most chilling cases in recent memory in each episode. While Tiscar most certainly deals with the facts, she demonstrates outstanding commitment to rightful representation and storytelling to understand how crime leaves a life-altering impact by returning to the places and visiting the communities scarred by violence.

The podcast host digs deep into some of the most notorious predators in Spain, who, somehow, lived and did all those horrible deeds right under everyone’s nose. Criminopatía also features never-before-seen and exclusive testimonies, and key figures to reconstruct the case to offer the audience the full story.

While the announcement is undoubtedly groundbreaking for Netflix, viewers might have to wait for further updates about Criminopatía’s release window. So, check back later for more information!
