CBS series ‘The Equalizer’ has been axed by Netflix
A long month of bad news is rounding off with darkness for fans of The Equalizer series. Earlier this month, it was cancelled after five seasons, with the possibility of a sixth season ruled out. Now, to top it all off, Netflix will be removing the series from its platform altogether.
The show may not have garnered any critical praise or accolades, but over time, it built its own loyal fan base. The series found a place on Netflix just five months ago, in December 2024. To check its prominence, initially, only the first three seasons with a total of 46 episodes were made available on the streaming platform. Unable to find its footing, the show, with all five seasons available, has now come to its conclusion. The Netflix attachment may have been an experiment to gauge audience interest in the show, which announced its impending closure.
The Equalizer is a reboot of the 1980s CBS show of the same name, helmed by Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller, known for being the brains behind Castle. It revolves around Queen Latifah’s Robyn McCall, an ex-CIA agent, who uses her extensive skills to help those in need of justice while looking for her own redemption. The show was a moderate success on Netflix. However, despite a low trend in popularity, the show’s loyal fans are disappointed with this news.
CBS is currently making tremendous changes to its release schedule. With several shows being cancelled by the network, spinoffs seem to be their next big experiment. They are poised to release Boston Blue, a spinoff of Blue Bloods, and FBI: CIA, a spinoff of FBI.
A CBS executive shared the show’s cancellation and departure from Netflix as unfortunate but necessary. The network carefully examined its list of shows and all the relevant information, such as the finances and ratings, which led to the tough decision being taken. The last date to watch the show is June 15th, 2025.
Queen Latifah took to her social media account to thank and appreciate the fans of the show for their support. She expressed gratitude for being able to take on a role like Robyn, which felt like a dream. She described the experience of the past five seasons as “surreal”.
