‘Cashero’: the superhero series climbing the Netflix charts

All of us need a little bit of saving every now and then, and it looks like Netflix subscribers have found a superhero series to save the day this time around – the cosy K-drama with a costly twist, Cashero.

The South Korean series hit Netflix shelves recently on December 26th, 2025, and has risen through the ranks of the weekly most popular non-English series chart. Cashero is currently ranked second on the charts with 3.8million views in the week dated December 22nd to December 28th. It is also the top ten title in a whopping 37 countries this week!

The Netflix limited series tells the story of an ordinary community centre employee, Kang Sang-ung, who suddenly gains superpowers that are proportionate to the amount of cash he has on hand. Like every normal person, all he dreams of is owning a home, but when he gets bestowed with the superpowers instead, his life becomes a chart of calculation.

Whenever he throws a punch, his bank balance drops, leaving him and his girlfriend to cut short the number of heroics that burn through his paycheck. But as it turns out, he’s not the only one with such quirky superpowers.

After he gets approached by advocate Byeon Ho-in, the head of the Korean Coalition of Superheroes, he learns that the lawyer’s superpowers begin to emulate whenever he drinks. As a result, Ho-in thinks of Sang-ung as a potential ally in his fight against the enigmatic “Criminal Association,” whose mission is to neutralise these superheroes.

Consequently, Ho-in and Sang-ung join forces with Bang Eun-mi, a sweet-tooth-loving telekinetic whose superpowers are related to the calories she intakes to defeat the evil forces of the mysterious “Criminal Association,” who keep hunting down superheroes like themselves.

Directed by Lee Chang-min from a script written by Lee Jane and Jeon Chan-ho, Cashero is based on the Kakao webtoon created by team befar. Lee Jun-ho stars as Kang Sang-ung, Kim Hye-jun as Kim Min-suk, Kim Byong-chul as Byeon Ho-in, and Kim Hyang-gi as Bang Eun-mi.

Although Netflix has introduced viewers to superheroes of every kind, Cashero stands out on its own with the most unlikely twist of all time. It completely subverts the superhero genre by defamiliarising the components of saviour syndrome with motivations that go beyond the simple dichotomy of good and evil.

It’s honestly no surprise that Cashero has been on the rise at the moment. But in case you’re still out of the loop, the South Korean limited series is currently streaming on Netflix!
