‘Carry-On’ becomes one of Netflix’s most-watched movies ever
Netflix’s recent Christmas-themed action thriller Carry-On has become one of Netflix’s most popular English-language films ever released.
According to the streaming giant, the film has garnered 149.5 million views as of January 7th, only a month after its release. These viewing figures make the movie the fifth most-watched English-language film on the site. Red Notice is the most viewed film, followed by Don’t Look Up, The Adam Project, and Bird Box.
Director Jaume Collet-Serra was asked how he felt about the movie’s viewing figures and success. He affirmed that he was delighted people were watching the movie and, most importantly, that he was happy people were enjoying it.
“More than the numbers, it’s seeing people’s reactions to the movie,” he said, “I started getting a lot of calls and texts from friends and people who didn’t know I directed it. They didn’t know until they saw the credits and they were sending me texts that they loved it. I think at that moment I knew the movie was finding an audience and connecting to it.”
The movie stars Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman. It’s a thriller set in an airport, which sees Bateman threaten Egerton, telling him to leave a bag containing an unknown package on an aeroplane without raising the alarm.
Collet-Serra has confirmed that despite the film’s success, there are yet to be any talks of a sequel; however, it is something he’s open to if the demand is there.
“We don’t have any plans for a sequel,” said Collet-Serra, “But if audiences wanted a sequel, families wanted a sequel and if we had an idea that would spark and live up to the original maybe we would do something. But right now, there are no plans.”
