Cameron Diaz returns to screen opposite Jamie Foxx after eight-year hiatus in a new Netflix film

After an eight-year-long hiatus, Cameron Diaz is finally back in action. She will be starring in an upcoming Netflix action comedy film alongside Jamie Foxx.

Diaz was last seen in the 2014 film Annie following which she announced her retirement in 2018 leaving several fans heartbroken. Interestingly, her upcoming comeback film is titled Back In Action.

Foxx shared the news on Twitter by sharing a three-way phone call recording between Diaz, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Tom Brady and himself. Foxx cheekily captioned his Tweet: “Cameron, I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT.”

The film will commence production later this year according to Foxx.

Back In Action will be directed by Horrible Bosses filmmaker Seth Gordon who is co-writing the script with Brendan O’Brien.

Previously, the Bad Teacher actress had opened out about the mental health struggles that followed her career and fame. Having talked about the “societal objectification and exploitations that women are subjected to”, Diaz later revealed the real reason for her decision to quit Hollywood to Gwyneth Paltrow.

The actress knew that Paltrow would understand her perspective, having been in the same spot for several years. Retirement helped clear Diaz’s head, as she said, “I got a peace in my soul because I finally was taking care of myself.”

In the audio recording, the Charlie’s Angels actress is seen talking about how nervous she is about her comeback. She is heard saying, “I’m like pacing the room. I feel excited but I don’t know how to do this, you know?”

Foxx surprised Diaz by calling Brady to ease her nerves. Brady, who is supposed to ease her transition and help her “un-retire”, smartly quips, “I’m relatively successful at un-retiring.”

Brady, who announced retirement in February, quickly changed his mind in a month and will be seen in a film called Eighty for Brady where a group of friends go to the Super Bowl to meet Brady, the NFL legend.

Netflix, too, quoted Foxx on Twitter and added “Thank you Cameron Diaz” to their bio.
