Cailee Spaeny and Josh O'Connor in talks to star in 'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery'

The third instalment in the Knives Out series has just been confirmed as the sequel, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is set to come to Netflix screens in 2025. It has also been confirmed that Cailee Spaeny and Josh O’Connor will star in the film. Tom Hardy and Lindsay Lohan are also said to be in talks with the studio.

Following the success of Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, he sold the exclusive rights to two future instalments to the streaming giant Netflix. The first iteration of those instalments came in 2022 as Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. It was equally successful as the original film, spending seven weeks in the global top 10s and racking up 301 million hours watched. The sequel has roughly 68.70 million views at the time of writing, leaving viewers desperate for the third.

The title and graphics for the new movie were revealed on Friday, May 24th. The announcement was made via Netflix’s TUDUM site.

Original director Johnson posted on X following the announcement, saying, “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is.” He continued, “There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”

Cailee Spaeny and Josh O’Connor will be joining the other only confirmed actor in the film, Daniel Craig, who reprises his role as the famous sweet-tongued southern detective, Benoit Blanc, for the third time.

Cailee Spaeny is having a great year after already appearing in two high-profile movies. She played Jessie in A24’s recent critically acclaimed drama Civil War and the titular character in the Elvis Presley biopic Priscilla. Some of her previous credits include On the Basis of Sex and Bad Times at the El Royale.

O’Connor recently performed in the tennis film Challengers, where he played alongside Mike Faist and Zendaya. He is also known for playing Prince Charles in the Netflix series The Crown

Lindsay Lohan and Tom Hardy were reportedly previously in talks to star in the mystery movie, but it is believed these talks may have fallen through, as nothing has been confirmed as of yet. While details about the plot of the film remain unknown, Johnson states that the title “gives a little hint of where it’s going.”

This is a developing story. More information about the filming of the movie and a potential release date will follow.
