Britney Spears movie 'Crossroads' arriving on streaming for the first time ever

Netflix has shared that Britney Spears’ first acting venture, the 2002 film Crossroads, will be available for streaming in February.

Across several social media platforms, the streamer announced: “The first movie to ever star the one and only Britney Spears has never been available on streaming… but that’s about to change! We’re thrilled to announce that Crossroads will finally be available on Netflix – GLOBALLY – starting February 15.”

The Tamra Davis direct flick starred Spears alongside Taryn Manning and Zoe Saldaña, following the high-school graduates as they embark on a cross-country road trip after graduation.

Kim Cattrall and Dan Aykroyd played Spears’ parents, and her younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, played a younger version of her character.

Spears has spoken extensively about how Crossroads was a pivotal moment in her career. In her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, Spears admitted her film acting debut “wasn’t easy” for her.

“I think I started Method acting – only I didn’t know how to break out of my character,” she admitted. “I really became this other person. Some people do Method acting, but they’re usually aware of the fact that they’re doing it, but I didn’t have any separation at all.”

Spears recalled “walking differently, talking differently” throughout filming. “I was someone else for months while I filmed Crossroads,” she added in her book. “Still, to this day, I bet the girls I shot that movie with think, She’s a little…quirky. If they thought that, they were right.”

For a two-night run last October, Crossroads briefly returned to movie theatres to coincide with the release of Spears’ memoir, in which she called the film: “Pretty much the beginning and end of my acting career.”
