‘Bride Wars’: The perfect Sunday night movie

Netflix has a habit of stealing our hearts every now and then. Sometimes the reasons are rooted in what’s to come, while at times it’s all about the perfect blast from the past to fit into our Sunday night schedules. So, if you thought Sunday night would be all about brooding, Bride Wars is on Netflix US to energise you this weekend.

Netflix kicked off November on a high note by adding a slew of titles that deserve a place on our watchlist. But for those looking for the ultimate cinematic match to unwind Sunday night, Bride Wars is the way to go.

Netflix brought the sensational comedy romance to the service on November 6th, just in time for the weekend, to make sure you don’t suffer from the blues. While Sundays might be a reminder of the tiresome workweek that awaits once again, Bride Wars, starring Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway, is right about enough to distract you from those thoughts.

For those who had no clue about its arrival, thank us later for the reminder. In case you’re new to the club and out of the loop about what you’d been missing all this time, Bride Wars is an iconic romantic comedy about two best friends, Emma and Liv, who have been planning each other’s weddings since they were little kids. While they were still children, they had once witnessed a dreamy wedding at the Plaza Hotel, and ever since then, they have both vocally aspired to have their respective weddings there.

As grown-ups, a lot may have changed, but their dreams are just as intact. One night, Emma and Liv discover a Tiffany box in the latter’s closet, convincing them that her boyfriend, Daniel, is about to propose. But instead of Daniel, Emma’s boyfriend, Fletcher, puts a ring on her finger. Not so long after Liv confronts Daniel, and he, too, pulls out the ring right on the spot. Sounds like destiny, right, having two best friends engaged at the same time?

They even take the first step to ensure their dreamy weddings do take place by booking The Plaza for two different dates in June. But a mishap takes place, leaving Emma and Liv’s appointment to clash at the same venue, on the same day, at the exact same time. Although they try to subtly convince one another, none of them is clearly interested in compromising their big day.

Then one misunderstanding leads to another, sparking a warfare that makes them look less like best friends and more like sworn enemies. Bride Wars might be a romantic comedy, but the nostalgia factor is palpable no matter the number of rewatches. It’s a one-of-a-kind entry to the genre that doesn’t lose its charm despite getting predictable on repeat viewing. If anything, it gets all the more precious. So, don’t miss out on Bride Wars on Netflix US while it’s still there. Call in your gal pals, too!
